hi all,
i just got a hedgehog from a very nice gentleman.
I just finish reading this thread, take a few days tho hahaha.

So just wanna introduce my female hedgehog, I named her Melati as the flower. smile.gif

These photos were taken on the 2nd day we met smile.gif.
So cute and lovely as the flower.

She is 1 year and 2 months old. If not mistaken, her d.o.b is on 26th Nov 2006. Will check it again.
She's very active at night, always try to get out of the box. When she sees my hand by the box, she will run towards it and try to climb out.
I let her go last night, she did behave, snug under the bedsheet, and stay for a while, then come out, move here, move there, and walk around me, never try to go far.

Both of my daughter love her so much, even on their first day of kindergarden, they ask to take photo with melati. biggrin.gif

hehehe, her previous owner said she took it from her father side, her father is small, but her mother twice as big.
Been feeding her RC fit 32, for few days she's not eating much, but after 3/4 days start taking a lot smile.gif. hopefully she will get bigger, and heavier. rclxms.gif

the photo my wife took it, shes's a photographer, i also take pictures laa, but still new, can only be a backup photographer whistling.gif

Melati is Sparky's Daughter, Donut's Sister hahaah....

The smallness comes from Sparky as he is quite a small hedgehog. He is about 300g adult size.

For you guys here, Pygmy hedgehogs can come in any weight, as long is above 255g.

Melati is lean coz the previous owner lets Melati run on a wheel everynight.

There is a difference between lean and skinny hedgehogs.

Dry skin comes from Wood shavings. If you use newspaper only, sure no dry skin.

ohh, thanks for the tips about the weight and dry skin.
So should i throw out the wood shavings, it looks nice tho with the woods shaving hehe, right now i build a hidebox for her, the same as in the 1st page hehe, she always stay inside, sleep sleep sleep. aiyahh

hehe no laa, did not use any lotion nor anything, just keep on changing her beddings, replace water daily, and enough food (i think, because always got leftover)
hopefully she's getting better with the dryskin problem.

Lil'Maine be careful tho hehe,
i ask one cricket from the usual pet store at my neighbourhood. Just to test wether my melati eat it or not. After 2 days, the cricket is still there, and always stay near her. I think they become friend already.

wanoridz: Ya, morning is kinda grumpy for hedgies... For most people, I guess... But mine, he will come out and look at you... Spikey say: hey you punk head, where's my food?
*
yeah, some morning, she will stand up looking to get out, scratch the wall of the box, but since i made her a hidebox, she did not do that anymore, she crawl out at night, eat her dinner, then go back to sleep, always sleepy that melati.

wan is it ok for hedgehog to travel a long journey??...
*
hi, you need to put them in a small box, make some holes, put towels/beddings inside. Put some water, if can use the water bottle, so that it wont spill over, put some food also, but melati when travel from kl to kuantan, she did not eat her food, not sure about water, but the food she dont even touch, and after we arrive, she does not eat for 2 days, after that ok already hehehe, eat a lot.

But before the 2 days, she was very2 grumpy, and sleep a lot. Hope that helps, just my experience to share.

lol, your ken is funny, i think he over ate laa,
my melati now got the same sympton, since i gave her a small towel, everything she do, she always carry that towel.
now sleep towel, makan towel, drink also under towel.

she will carry it arround, when i'm working, and suddenly hear her crunching the kibbles, i will see the whole towel on top of the food bowl.
she just love that towel.

since i got her, once a while, i wil llet her roam in my roam, one night, i fell asleep and forgot to put her back inside. Before this, she's ok with it, she will sleep at the corner, but now since she got the towel, cannot already, that night she bite my toe few times haha, i woke up and she look at me, i think she miss her towel, put her back in the container, and there she goes, happily ever after.

oh man, i thought i hear ghost crying LOL

i notice that few days earlier i havent got time to let her free. I always let her roam loose in the office, but because of workload, i did not let her go. That night, after she look at me, and make the sound, i put my hand inside, and she climb to my hand. I let her loose, and she looks happy running here and there.

She's been doing ok now, but i would love to hear that sound again hahaha
she did scare me that night.
