hi everyone,

i just got a hedgie with my bf (yet to name him yet) but the day we got him from one of the sellers here, it clicked. we took it home and left it alone for a day... the next day, we fed it cricket and small worms... he loved it but sometimes, he's still kinda aggresive. for now, we don't dare to carry him or even do anything with him yet. we gave him our clothes and he did self anointing after that. is it common for him to nibble on the clothe? and does it hurt if we let him nibble us? how do we go about from here?

btw, he's super handsome and cute. just kinda insecure now... >.<
help!

thanks everyone.. smile.gif

muchan
i don't really dare to put my hand near him now.. he kinda push himself into a ball whenever we make sudden movements..

toottut
i think he's around 5-6 months old now..

crazymouse
ya, we just got him on sunday through someone in here in LYN.
i don't really know what type of cat food suits him... when we bought him, the previous owner gave us food and also wood shaving... i don't really know whether that cat food given by the previous owner is good for him or not... where else can i find good pet stores that sells hedgie things? i tried pets wonderland in MV, petsmore in Queens Park, and some other few shops at Pandan.. i can't seem to find much things for hedgies here in cheras..

now tht he's been with us for 3 days, he's ok with us feeding him.. he 'attacks' the chopstick that we use to feed him worms and cricket.. we just bought a toyogo box for him and we made him a house.. yet to take picture cause we just let him in yesterday into his new house.. we tried not to feed him directly and allow him to hunt for the food in his new house.. we usually put worms and crickets into his bowl and he'll come out and run around to hunt for the worm.. very cute..

oh btw, he's been making some sounds that both myself and my bf doesn't really understand what sound it is.. it isn't clicking nor hissing.. and if he scratches himself, does it mean he have mites? how do we clean him since we can't really touch him yet? oh gosh, i know i'm asking a lot of questions, but do we need to bath our hedgies often? how often then?

i heard that hedgies will actually attempt hibernation if the temperature is too cold.. i've read many warnings regarding it also... try not to put him into an air con room.. not safe.. hedgies aren't suppose to hibernate... they prefer warm temperature... smile.gif

crazymouse
we bought RC feline indoor for him yesterday and he absolutely loved it...
he kept munching and munching and munching away...
we did add in his previous food so that he can slowly adapt to the new RC... we'll try to give him better food and we'll also try to mix a few food together so that he can also have a variety to choose from...

yesterday, we tried to bath our little hedgie.. he was so cute and clumsy!
he stretched and fall will being in the stretching position.. *he was trying to climb out of the water >.<*
ooh, he pooped into the water too... which was funny and smelly at the same time... >.<

anyway, there was progress in him being with us..
we even picked him up after bathing time... he kinda curled and clicked.. but thank God after a time, he's okay with us carrying him... there are a few times he tried to curl or run away... but after a while, he's back to normal.. we even take photo's with him! smile.gif which was pretty cool.. smile.gif he knows when we said 'no' to him...
there was a time where he curled and after we say 'no', he relaxed himself more...
*i'm not exaggerating*

oh, attached are some of the pictures of his house.. and we've decided to call him 'spikey'...
ya, so, spikey the hedgie.. tongue.gif

ya, we took out the box last nite after the bath.. i saw him fell once when my phone suddenly went to music mode... >.< he was so clumsy... >.< he kept peeking at me and my phone when the ballad was playing.. guess he doesn't really like music... *my phone was kinda soft and the music was easy going*

we're probably going to find him a soft pin cushion for him as a bed so he can cuddle in warmly.. *do u know where we can find this?* if we can find that, then we can also put in a wheel for him to exercise.. cause now, if we were to replace the box with another box, he'll pee on it again and it'll become wet and damp.. plus, we couldn't fit a wheel in there with the box blocking half the space.. smile.gif we found a huge wheel with a price RM 21.90.. is it okay? should we buy? there are scratches on the wheel..

erm.. it's big / huge... don't think it'll rub against spikey's back.. but am afraid that it'll fall out and get stuck due to his own clumsiness.. =.=" he is super clumsy.. so, RM 21.90... should we buy or should we not? the pink one looks ok compared to the white one.. but! spikey is a male! oh gosh, it'll look ugly in his housey... white toyogo box, blue container for drink and poo poo and brown food container... now pink wheel??!! @_@ goodness... >.<

erm.. they're allowed to sell those small little fella's meh? as in, 2-3 weeks?? shouldn't they still be nursing with their mom?? >.< cruelnyer..
anyway, will think about that whole wheel thing with matt.. he's been talking about DIY for no idea how long.. probably sooner or later he'll really do it..
oh, yesterday we took spikey out of his house so he could roam matt's room.. he keeps going to corners and running around and sniffing.. he was so cute! smile.gif if only we have more time to play with him yesterday.. smile.gif but it was still worth watching him scurrying around...

ya, we tried putting spikey on our lap... he just clumsily walk off our lap which was kinda itchy at first... but we kinda need to get use to it... he is seriously clumsy.. he ran all over the room and poo poo every where he walks.. he also went head on to matt's younger sister while she was helping him clean the box... she nearly jumped cause she wasn't expecting spikey to run straight into her leg.. she felt his nose and he was really cute...

oh ya, he's really crazy about crickets.. he can eat and eat and eat and eat all day long.. *we feed him maximum 5 crickets a day* hehe.. let's just hope that he'll soon come 'out' of his quills and play alongside us...

how often should we bath him?? and, we don't dare to cut his toe nails.. how ar? it's getting longer and longer.. is there anybody who can help us cut his nails? we have not seen it done before... >.< kinda worried that we'll hurt him if we were to 'experiment' cutting his nails...

anyway, spikey seems to be scratching quite a lot lately and he seems to be quilling also.. can it be mites? how can we be sure that it is not mites? (the skin is red if it mites ar?) @_@
can we go to any vet if our spikey got mites? =.=

ya.. spikey was very very 'naughty'.. he climbed into a cup of mealworms last night when we were playing with him.. >.< and he gobbled up quite a lot of worms.. he is super 'wai sik'... but he was really cute cause his head was stuck into the cup and only his body and tail left outside the cup.. haha.. biggrin.gif

anyway, i do have frontline just in case he's really infected.. and we got hold of the address and contact number of the vet nearby our houses that do treat hedgies.. so, ya.. we'll make sure he is A ok...

oh, i was kinda scared when matt allow spikey to walk on my bare hands.. haha.. i guess he is able to sense the fear.. cause the moment he walk off my hand, he kinda quilled a bit.. then he relax back.. haha.. we is sooo cute when he's quilled up and upside down.. smile.gif

some pics of spikey: rclxm9.gif

wanoridz: cute pics there! she's so friendly and cute.. haha.. good thing that she is willing to run towards your hand when u put ur hand into the cage.. trying to get spikey out sometimes can be challenging.. especially for baths.. =.=" but good thing spikey is getting along with us fast.. he's ok with us touching him now... just a bit grumpy at times..

btw, what will happen if we dun cut his toenails ar? will it grow too long? *still dun dare to cute his nails.. >.<*
