3 months is still young.... but do check for mites.... alot of breeders have been saying their hedgies are "mite free" but some infact come with mites. Choose your hedgie wisely too....
*
Just brought my hedgie home last night, a male salt & pepper, haven't name him yet laugh.gif
Not sure whether he "mite free", but I find that he like to scratch his body though hmm.gif

Ah, its been a long time since i had been here. And its V4 already..LOL.. flex.gif

Anyway, Ryo' i think you need to check the hedgie properly. If he likes to scratch, it is most probably he is having mites problem. Do look for anything moving around its body especially the quill area. Best of all, bring him to a vet to have a full checkup first. There tend to be alot of problem buying hedgie from normal breeders...
*
I've been observing him for very long time, no white dot moving around his body, no bare spot found too hmm.gif
He still very shy and stress la, if possible I don't want to make him travel again until he get use to his new house wub.gif

QUOTE(crazymouse_yyh @ Oct 13 2007, 05:52 PM)
If hedgehog scratches alot, means mites loh.... they will only scratch alot if there are mites. Very irritating and if not cured, can cause death too.

Sometimes a hedgehog can die for many reasons, it could be some respiratory disorder, maybe liver failure? Inbreeding? Won't know until you do an autopsy....

Anyway, RIP to mochi the hedgie.....

So far mine all ok (touch wood) Hope nothing happen to them.
*
Can cause death?! Omg:shock: Actually not really scratch alot la, hmm.gif only scratch few time when he come out from the hide box and walk around, is it normal for hedgie to scratch its body? Has anyone use Frontline to cure mites before? unsure.gif

Anyway, Hun have you study zoology before, you know a lot about animals! Respect! notworthy.gif

Btw, may I know you guys feed your hedgie with what kind of cat food? I bought "Royal Canin Kitten 34" for my hedgie, is it suitable for my hedgie? The pet shop owner said it's more nutritious hmm.gif But my hedgie like it a lot though laugh.gif

My hedgie got all the quilling symptoms hmm.gif
-lots of quills being lost
-new quills poking through the skin
-hisses and pops constantly

And the bad news is found mites on his skin too doh.gif
I've bought Frontline, but should I use it on my hedgie if he already start quilling? As I know quilling make hedgie's skin become tender and sore, I worry if I apply Frontline will make it worse, please advice smile.gif

Wa nice DIY wheel Ryo, but how you screw the wheel and the stand? is it with roller there ???? ( I can't find the small roller .... )
Maybe you try remove the sleeping box and see is it will step on it ? ( Midnight or do this will better, because is hedgehog enjoy play time biggrin.gif )
*
I use electric drill to drill the hole, plan to use roller with bearing at first, but couldn't find a suitable one, so I just use screw lo, it still spin, lolz... Any idea where to find a suitable roller? Need inputs from you guys to enhance the wheel, lolz laugh.gif

i must say i love your shots! xpecially the snickerin one & the one with jr. on your lap. i'd love to have mine sleep like that.

cheers on the wheel. it'll take some time before they discover the magical force of zee wheel. then you'll worry more of cleanin it as often as ya can.
*
Haha.. thanks laugh.gif I like the snickering one too, so cute smile.gif I don't mind cleaning it as long as he doesn't waste my effort, lol laugh.gif

QUOTE(crazymouse_yyh @ Oct 22 2007, 09:29 PM)
The wheel looks great. Nice DIY job, what pail did you use?

Anyway, it takes some time. Curious hedgies will run straight away, some just need to adjust and explore it before using.

Anyway, Donut is 428g today! Fat... heavy.... how long till she pops?
*
I use those paint pail and cut it half, hopefully he will run on it smile.gif

hi everybody..
just come back from raya holiday..
brought sheimi back to my hometown, but he seemed stress by the travel..
and he pees a lot.. all the shavings were very wet, huhu..
but he ate a lot of kibbles.. i tried giving him banana, he licked and started anointing..

i showed sheimi to my nephews and nieces, suddenly one of my niece (who is big enough to get married) shouted so loud and asked me whether sheimi will shoot his quills.. i told her: dis is a hedgehog la, only porcupine can do that shooting thingy.. and my uncle pulak told them some stupid fact: "kecik-kecik memang la baik, nanti dia besar dia pandai la tembak.." duhhh

-----------------------------------------

anyway, congrats to all new hedgie owners.. welcome to the pokimon club <- moli, why pokimon eh?

hun..
wonder when will donut delivers the hoglets... can't wait..

climacool..
ur hoglets were very cute.. really like the pic of the mother and the hoglets..
*
Erm... I thought porcupine also couldn't shoot quills, no? Those cartoon kinda misleading sweat.gif

Oh no...those flies lay eggs all around the mealworm box, even in the box..... doh.gif  doh.gif
do you all have the problem?
i scared they lay eggs on Vixie's body only........... doh.gif  doh.gif

thinking of throwing all the mealworms away, and only buy a few whenever i want to feed her mealworms ><

Added on October 24, 2007, 2:32 am

sometimes i mind lol...especially when stress and having exams and assignment due dates all coming together...
sleep 3 hours morning wake up see the wheel all poo poo  mad.gif  mad.gif

but see her play till so happy at night...ok lar...forget about it laugh.gif  laugh.gif
*
You have to clear dead mealworms daily to reduce the smell,
Normally flies lay eggs if your mealworm box stink or have dead mealworms in it,
Don't worry, flies won't lay eggs on Vixie unless she smell badly or has wound on her body laugh.gif

Normally how long does quilling process last?

I change the newspaper bedding daily, wash the towels weekly, clean the wheel twice a day, bath my hedgie weekly, haha

My hedgie accept Orijen, but he doesn't like vege or fruits
