Yes it is recommended to give them a constant day/night cycle meaning 12 hours of daylight and then 12 hours dark, they use uv/full spectrum bulbs similar to what people use for reptile pets, especially countries that have 4 seasons (because daylight hours are shorter during wintertime)

too much darkness can actually encourage a hibernation attempt

However due to our location so near the equator as long as there is a window in the room where you put your hedgehog, and you can open the curtain so natural light can come in you dont need to provide them lighting (but please dont put them directly in the sunshine as they can get sunburn)

but if the room where you put them has no window or for some reason is always dark even in the day you might want to consider it

Edit: SIGH...................another free post count for my bf sleep.gif

Oh sorry didnt realize you were from Malacca. In that case have you tried calling either of the Malacca vets listed in the vets thread to see if they can treat him?
No harm in calling and finding out.
On a side note, you should always try finding a vet before something happens. Especially if your not located in a big city and deciding to keep an exotic pet.

They eat roughly 2 tablespoons per day so its unlikely you will be able to use a 5k bag without it going stale hehe. However I believe you also own cats? Perhaps you could do what Crazymouse does with her dogs and let them share.

Cats usually get kidney stones because the silly things never drink enough water, being on a dry food diet does not help :/
About RC giving kidney stones to cats its abit of a stretch but entirely possible, RC is a little high in grain content which can lead to the urine becoming more alkaline and then resulting in kidney stones ( it should be acidic, just like dogs )
However to be fair its not just RC that contains alot of fillers (grains), many non holistic brands are the same.

Edit: mm..yeah..its me (cim)

Sprayed too much i think, only supposed to spritz a couple times on the rump. The spray is alcohol based so its pretty drying.

Buy some oats (not instant oats, get rolled oats or slow cook oats) and put some in a clean sock/stocking.
Swish the sock in warm bathwater. Make sure its just slightly warm and not too hot, overly warm water will cause the skin to become even dryer.
When the oats makes the water a diluted milky color you can remove the sock. Think of it as making tea with a teabag but using oats in a sock instead.
Bathe her in it. You can add a few drops of vitamin e oil to the bathwater also if you like.

Remove tasty smelling hedgehog and cuddle till dry laugh.gif

The reason to use the sock is so the pieces of oat don't get stuck in between her quills and confuse you into thinking her dry skin is getting worse. Trust me its VERY hard to remove oats from quills..i learned the hard way.

Dont bathe her with her regular soap/shampoo for awhile, until her skin recovers just use this oatmeal bath method.
If you dont like eating oats the extra oats can be used to gut load mealies, or for future dry skin situations.

This is what the rolled oats looks like btw
