Oh no...those flies lay eggs all around the mealworm box, even in the box.....
do you all have the problem? i scared they lay eggs on Vixie's body only........... thinking of throwing all the mealworms away, and only buy a few whenever i want to feed her mealworms >< Added on October 24, 2007, 2:32 am QUOTE(Ryo` @ Oct 23 2007, 10:16 PM) Haha.. thanks sometimes i mind lol...especially when stress and having exams and assignment due dates all coming together...I use those paint pail and cut it half, hopefully he will run on it Erm... QUOTE(Ryo` @ Oct 24 2007, 08:37 AM) Frontline spray, you can get it from vets or some pets shop You have to clear dead mealworms daily to reduce the smell, Normally flies lay eggs if your mealworm box stink or have dead mealworms in it, Don't worry, flies won't lay eggs on Vixie unless she smell badly or has wound on her body noted..thanks~ |

that day i notice there's some blood stains on the wheel together with the poo stains
after checking i think one foot of my hedgie's hind legs was bleeding but for one day only, now ok already... but she's not eating...eats very little since after quilling...now eat even lesser.. i wonder is anything wrong with the kibbles or something's wrong with the hedgie? |

QUOTE(crazymouse_yyh @ Oct 29 2007, 08:01 PM) Hmm.... bleeding, if foot, sometimes it's the nails... see got any breakage or not.... but if there is no wound then shouldn't be a problem. i'm running out of mealworms...If your hedgie is having mood swings and not eating regularly, you can give treats like crickets and mealworms. previous batch i thrown away coz a lot of flies' egg |

QUOTE(crazymouse_yyh @ Oct 30 2007, 12:57 PM) Aiyah.... flies come coz the mealworms are damp.... and smelly so of course will got flies come and lay eggs. aiks i tot keep in those normal plastic box can already The proper way to keep mealworms is by keeping in a basin or deep plastic tray or ice cream box without the lid. Use a bedding of oats and feed only leafy vegies or carrot slices. No cabbage, no apples, no wet fruits or cucumbers..... Leafy veggies like sawi and kangkung are good enough for feeding mealies. Then add additional protein like fish pellets or dry cat food. Anyway, great update!!!! Donut gave birth at around 12am I think coz I found her with 2 live hoglets at around 1am. Sad to say, she actually had 3 hoglets but she cannibalized one... so I guess that one had a defect. I managed to check the dead one's quills... looks like these hoglets may have more white quills than salt and pepper quills. Hope both will grow healthy now.... really sayang, only 2 hahahha.... now need to wait for 2 weeks before I can handle them. The size of new born hoglets.... they are tiny, around 2 inches or less. anyway where to get the oats bedding? Congrats to both you and Donut |

QUOTE(crazymouse_yyh @ Oct 30 2007, 10:40 PM) You can put in normal plastic box... but make sure the mealworms don't fill up till 1 inch deep and do not cover so no moisture is in it. the problem is i don't have any place to put the box if i don't cover it ><Oats, go super market and get lah. Those prestine or any brand would do. Thanks for the congrats |

If we do a DNA sequence of hedgehog of different colour, then we can know the difference between DNA sequences that code for different colours...
then do more research on crossing of the gene, then can breed lineage of different colours.. |

QUOTE(Cimredopyh @ Mar 5 2008, 11:58 PM) Went to that 88 marine place in Pandan Indah today, They had three hedgies 'for display purpose only' is it very skinny?one champagne, one chocolate snowflake, one albino The albino and champagne look pretty fat, but the chocolate snowflake one was so skinny that the shape of the hipbones and rib cage can be seen clearly even through the spines!........... i can see a bit of my hedgehog's "waist" when it is walking...don't know is it too skinny or not.. but she eats very little, spend most of her time sleeping and playing the wheel.. Hi all i need some advice.
I'm planning to breed my hedgehog. But mine is a female, around 8 months old. I'm wondering if i buy a male hedgie now, do i need to raise it to certain age before it can breed? I already found potential good homes if my hedgie ever have baby, so don't worry |

QUOTE(livingmonolith @ Mar 27 2008, 06:46 PM) if you plan to breed, it's best if your male hedgehog is at least 6 months old. then again, don't just buy one and breed immediately. i'd say let it adapt for several months before you attempt to breed them. I'm not breeding to make profit. My first intention is that my dad and auntie are quite interested in hedgehog since long time ago, since before I had one. But all those available in the pet shop near my hometown are either very fat/looks old/not active. So i've been planning to breed and let them keep the babies.in the end of the day, what is your purpose of breeding hedgehogs? to make profit, or to produce good quality offsprings? if your intention is the former, i would have no further decent advices. but if it's for the latter, please do make sure that you are having two quality hedgehogs with good temperaments, healthy, etc before trying to breed them. if you were to breed and get really grumpy and bad-tempered hoglets later on, chances are this trend will go on and on and on, which is not good for future hedgehog buyers. when i received my hoglet back then, it was incredibly tame. in fact, until today it has never balled up, i'm wondering if it knows how to ball up. this is an example of a good quality hedgehog from a good breeder, i am very happy and satisfied to have dealt with him. if you really want to breed, take it as a hobby and try to produce really good quality offsprings, and make sure you study all the necessary infos to equip yourself well, you never know what will happen. I don't know whether my hedgehog is good tempered, since i never see other people's hedgehog before. But she seldom balls up, only ball up when sleeping. But i really hope i can see my hedgie have babies and hopefully she'll be a good mother. Anyway thank you for your advice, appreciate that Added on March 27, 2008, 11:57 pm QUOTE(muchan86 @ Mar 27 2008, 09:09 PM) Green : my Ken is 5 months ++ I wan to breed him as I wan to rare his baby for myself.. this is just my thinking...
