I'm about to start my second semester of my Comp Sc undergrad soon, just looking for advise from people who are already in the field. I currently have not specialized into any course (only starts at year 2). I have a mix interest in tech, finance & administration tbh. I am looking to either do MBA or get PMP eventually, but as of right now, kinda torn in deciding which course to specialize in. My current options are continuing the CS with freedom to choose electives or choose specialized course which are divided into Data Analytics, FinTech and also Business Information Systems. Obviously, I can learn them on my own but my current goal is to have the required skillset for both the Tech and Business side. Which of these specialism do you think is better suited for someone looking to be a project manager in the IT field in the near future. How often do fresh grads even get to land a PM role these days? I'd love to put in the effort and shadow any PMs in my free time to learn more. I still have until March 2023 to decide Looking to upskill myself via online courses and being event master for my uni in the meantime.

I graduated from Business Information Systems, those "Business" course doesn't really helpful for me. In my time we just learn how tech helping in business, but IMO system get outdated real quick considering how the tech evolve so quick nowadays.
10 years in IT never seen any fresh grad land as PM, the closer 1 I have seen is hired as PM assistance for few years and promote later, because they wanted to see how good u could deal with the client.

Either they start off with a PM admin related role (for larger organisations which have a dedicated PMO - Project Management Office team) or you might need to go around the areas of being a business analyst. Honestly, PMP, pretty much a theory based style which in my past 15 years, I have never seen any project follow it to a T because things change so much and so often (I used to have a PMP cert but didn't bother renewing after 5 years).
