In the past, happened to me when tapping on other's link. So nowadays, my common practice is: Tap link > wait for it to load completely > do an action in farm > repeat the process 3x minimum.

You may try to tap my link again, if you want... If still no water bonus, most likely it already went to "the random 3rd person".

I believe the daily assist limit is still 2x for "invite" (outside mission).
