Anyone knows any good geriatricians in Klang Valley? Looking for one who is knowledgeable, experienced, patient and empathetic.

[Rant Begins]

Earlier, I managed to book a session with a geriatrician in a private hospital in PJ. My dad was having some age-related medical conditions: slight dementia, irregular blood sugar level, loss of appetite, sleep problems, and he was feeling depressed because of all these.

My friend recommended me to see a geriatrician, as they are more experienced in dealing with elderly patients and their common problems - mental and physical.
They are also supposed to know how to treat elderly patients with more care and patience as it can be difficult (old ppl mah, sometimes forget things, sometimes need encouragement).

My sister and father went to see her for a general geriatric assessment to get a holistic view of my father's health and how to proceed from there.

Right from the start, the doctor was rude, impatient, antagonistic and hostile towards my sister and father. She raised her voice at my sister, and cut off my sister when my sister tried to answer her questions. She showed no patience or empathy to my father, and didn't seem to have the EQ to deal with elderly patients.

Example, when my sister couldn't give exact details to her questions, she will yell, "You never monitor your own father one ah? If you don't know, then I know ah?". But when my sister tried to give her observations, the doctor will also say, "You don't make assumptions yourself, I am the doctor. You are not the doctor!"
First off, we don't have a 24-hour monitoring device on my father's ankle, all we can do is give our observations as best as we could. If you need to do more tests, just collect whatever info you can, and ask to do more tests ler, don't have to be rude about it.

My father, as mentioned, have slight dementia, will often give wrong answers to her (old age ma, can't remember). But when my sister tried to correct him, the doctor will get angry again, "One say this, one say that, who do I trust like that?"

At the end of the harrowing session, she demanded that my father gets admitted for tests on the same day. My father declined as, partly he was not comfortable with this doctor already, and he also had an appointment the next day.

The doctor's rude response? "Up to you lah. Your appointment or your life more important?"

It was already hard to persuade my Dad to see a specialist. This affected him to the point he does not want to return to this doctor, or this hospital or even to see another geriatrician. A geriatrician job is supposed to make the elderly be comfortable, or to terrorize old people?

hi, im a dr practicing in UM, i can recommend u a geriatrician, Dr Khor Hui Min, she is one of the consultants in UM. Previously i have pts who were referred to geri and she was kind enough to personally come and see the pts, do note that usually consultants (senior sp) seldom go out of their own wards to see pts. I have seen the way she interacted with pts and i can say that she is one of the nicest geriatricians u can find out there. She does practice in UMSC, which is the private side of the UM, u can try to book an appointment with her. On a side note, im quite surprised that u came across a rude geriatrician, as usually geri doctors are one of the nicest due to the nature of their job (treating old ppl which requires lots of patience).

Thank you for the recommendation. I did find Dr Khor's name online as well as the rude geriatrician. But Dr Khor was booked until February next year, so I went with the rude one first.
