I always thought x265 decoding is quite cpu intensive, or at least need a capable chipset to do it.
How is this possible?
How is it possible my TV can play X265 video?

I have a cheap Hisense "non-smart" 40N2176P tv. It does have built in media player that can play x264 video files. Today, I try to play a x265 mp4 video file (low bitrate 720p type) on it. Surprisingly, it can play.

If your tv can play mp4 u should be able to play it.I always thought x265 decoding is quite cpu intensive, or at least need a capable chipset to do it. How is this possible? |

However if you do high bit rate HEVC, then it may stutter randomly.I always thought x265 decoding is quite cpu intensive, or at least need a capable chipset to do it. How is this possible? |

Most somewhat "modern" TV will have the ability to playback HEVC files, granted not all TVs has the power to playback high bitrate/HDR10+/DV files or the ability to, but as long as your TV is 2015 or newer, it 'll mostly have the build in HEVC decode module in the SoC for it.I always thought x265 decoding is quite cpu intensive, or at least need a capable chipset to do it. How is this possible? GPU Usage of 4k HEVC DV 16Mbps GPU Usage of 720p HEVC 2Mbps See Video Decode tab This post has been edited by yenchenje: Nov 6 2022, 04:21 PM |
