Currently working in a company [joined July 2022, probation 6 months until December 2022]. When given the job was told that chances to continue working can be low but got chance (I know confusing); so went for an interview last week and was provided with an offer [pending final confirmation based on background check]. The new job if it were to start, will begin in Jan 2023. Some doubts:

1. If the current company were to offer me to continue, would they give me/talk about it when the probation is ending (like last week of Dec?) or do companies typically let you know earlier?

2. If I'm joining the new company, do I have to tender my notice around end of November, so that my last day will be end of December? or it's not required because the probation is ending? This is assuming if there aren't any talks of extending etc.

Thank you.

Check what's the condition set in your probation period.

You should know your chances is to pass probation. Check with colleagues, or casual chat with supervisor, etc.

Current Job condition:

Probation Period: 6 months from commencement date
Termination of Service: 30 days' notice in writing

I assume the termination notice is before I finish up the probation period, correct? What I work until end of probation period?

There are some cases employee suppose to finish up 6 months probation but company did not say anything and automatically deem as convert to permanent staff. I have experienced myself after 6 months probation no notice and when ask manager it is deemed as converted to permanent if there were no letter from HR mention extension. Also mean after probation no increment of salary.

There will be no termination notice after 6 months probation if your employment is permanent position. Mean after 6 months probation like 31st Dec 2022 then you still need to go office as usual in 2/1/2023. By then only you tender resignation mean you need to serve 30 days notice and you can only join new company in Feb 2023.

If you resign by end of Dec mean you need to serve notice until Jan 2023. If company decided not to extend and terminate your employment then company also have to give you serve notice 30 days or longer.

Best solution is notify your current employer you get a new offer and new job start on Jan 2023. If they want you to stay they will convert you straight and do not need to wait finish up 6 months.

Thank you for this. Then I'll proceed to notify current employer as soon as I get the final confirmation offer for new job.

1 question. Supposed my current employer counter with higher offer, should I inform the new job regarding this and see if they would match it or something? Or do i just take whichever is higher?

Wow TS got good back up plan.

Just in case current co not confirm, you can escape to new co.

But TS, why dun u go and ask ur immediate boss about confirmation ? If your boss give the green light then it means you are safe. So next decision is, do you want to go to new co or stay ?

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

If TS get confirmation from the current co now, TS will be stuck with the new notice period (if there's any) for permanent staffs.

Of course you can inform to your new employer that your current employer counter offer you to stay. If new employer offer you then you should take it or stay with current employer with the 1st counter offer. Don't nego for 2nd counter offer as many employers don't like employee or potential employee keep pressing for salary.

I see, that would not be good. I'll wait till get offer, tender notice and see if there's any counter offer etc.
