I am currently using 3rd generation Apple TV with my 10 years old Sony 1080p TV, to watch Netflix content + Astro. The controller is a little frustrating to use ... cacat already.

I am trying to find way to get Disney + onto my tv, without spending too much. My Apple TV does not have disney+

Since my tv is not 4k, I probably don't want to spend too much for features that I won't be using. I may upgrade to 4k TV in the future, but I think it won't be anytime soon (unless touchwood, tomorrow my tv decided to die on me). Even when I purchase new tv , it probably already have built in apps for netflix/disney+ anyway.

I am not sure if i should spend like rm 400-500 for a used Apple tv 4th generation, or around rm 300 for Chromecast with googletv. Other criteria is I must have a remote, so my daughter and wife can just use the remote without fiddling with phone.

Personally, I am Apple Iphone12 user. My wife using android phone. We dont have any smart home set up. Casting from phone for content will probably less likely to happen. On Apple TV I occassionally rent movies that I have missed in cinema, otherwise most of the time is on Netflix.



What will be my best choice?

On the side note, I am thinking if I am able to watch 4k content on my 2k office monitor, if I plug for example the chromecast onto my monitor.

Shopping for a new Android box

This is a good device but has some downsides for those interested in getting one.

1. The USB 3.0 port is almost unusable = when anything connected to it, the whole system suffers massive lag for some weird reason. Happening to me, and also reported by others.
2. There is no OTA update provided for this device.
3. If you interested in cloud gaming e.g GFN, wired mode suffers massive packet loss (can be fixed with buying ugreen USB ethernet / connected via USB 2.0 port)


Aside from that, its perfect device (for me). Its Netflix and amazon certified, as well can run disney+. No issues with IPTV apps and Kodi as well.

I ended buying the google Chromecast with remote. I think so far it serves my purpose well... not really a power user myself... just Netflix + Disney+. But I do miss the ability to directly renting movie from apple tv (cheaper than google) Now I have to rent the movie I want to watch from my iphone, then only able to play with chromecast...

There is. Can browse n watch apple tv+ content (if subscribe). but wasnt able to view the usual Itune movies. there is no browsing of those like on apple tv

Anyone know the latest version of Google Chromecast?

I heard so far 4th generation, is there 5th? Is the latest model available in Malaysia? Which seller at Lazada reliable to purchase the latest version/model?

The last i heard of in the google tv 4k with improve of os.

should be quite safe to buy from lazada but what price what version you need to check the spec before u buy

important is how to get your app into the device and how much apk is compatiable.

Its for my old parent to use so don't care about 4k since they use 1080p tv.

bros, if it is for old folk to use it may not be suitable.
what does your parent use the device for and how savy are they.
google tv dont come with much app except for standard netflix and very little
chinese app

most old folk want is switch on the power and the program is almost ready to be use without
much effort, such as select channel and volumn up and down

I am asking the latest version of Google Chromecast dongle.

They already know how to use android tv, so want to run another one on a old non smart tv that is not 4k.

Latest one would be "Chromecast with Google TV"
There are some on shopee
but unlike the older ones where it's just a casting dongle, this one is basically an android tv box with ui and all
but some (including me) might not like the google tv UI compared to the old android tv ui
and since you mentioned "already know how to use android tv", the change that google tv brings may confuse them
