Hi admin & staff,
Hope you're having a great day. Would like to ask LYN admin and staff why you chose Invision Power Board template over other forum templates like myBB, vBulletin etc. or if you can point to any resource discussing pros and cons of using one template over another. |

It's already addressed in the FAQ. QUOTE Why is Lowyat.NET using a trial version of IPB? Why isn't Lowyat.NET upgrading? The trial version that Lowyat.NET is using was made available by IPB at a time when IPB offered full trial versions for free. This option is no longer available. We could certainly buy the latest IPB but we have expanded considerable time and effort in customizing the script that we currently use and upgrading would mean doing it all over again (not to mention plenty of downtime!). Finally, we haven't seen enough features on the paid IPB that would benefit the community sufficiently to go through the hassle of an upgrade (but it is likely that we will once IPB offer native mysql5 support). I would say u cant consider the current software is IPB anymore. The admins have done a lot of modification and new functions to it, eg ipv6, mobile version, not to mention numerous bugs fixing. and most importantly, its free lol, need to pay annually to IPB and vBulletin. i think they will definitely charge Lowyat.NET massive amount considering the traffics from this website.
