MyCC gives Shopee until end of October to explain delivery issues

PETALING JAYA: Shopee has until the end of October to explain the first and last mile delivery issues raised by its consumers and merchants, says the Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC).

The regulator’s CEO, Iskandar Ismail, said they have engaged with the e-commerce platform because of increasing complaints from consumers and merchants about its delivery services.


“Shopee is now required to provide MyCC with the justification for its conduct and a detailed account of how these issues will be addressed internally without further jeopardising users’ interest by end of October,” he said in a statement.

While MyCC welcomes the innovation by industry players and acknowledges that it has significantly improved Malaysians’ online shopping experience, Iskandar said, they need to be mindful of their conduct which may cause competition concerns and harm users.

“We understand the current challenges that the industry players are facing, but it should not stop them from providing the best services to users,” he said.

He said MyCC will continue to monitor other industry players operating in the same market.

“We will not hesitate to invoke our investigation and enforcement powers against any enterprise suspected of breaking the law,” he said.

Shopee need to explain why they insist using SPX, their own service that is shitty, instead of allowing seller to pick other courier service.

Stopped using Shopee now for parcels. Forcing Shopee Express is a huge gamble. Takes 10 days and tons of complain before it moves (happened just a few weeks ago). I rather use Pos Laju. Moving on to Lazada.

from what I know, they really lack of staff due to salary issues

your parcels might be scan by the rider who collect the parcels at the hub, but due to , maybe not enough time , the rider have to resend back the hub and resend back the next day

at least poslaju / jnt still can collect at their office if returned/lambat

after 50th package then they will give 50 sen extra per parcel

reality they only give you less than that

my latest case -
placed order on the 9th Oct. Ok 9th and 10th holiday
then ShopeeXpress picked up on the 12th
5 days sitting doing nothing
17th - baru received by sorting center
sits another 4 days then now today sent to Delivery Hub

lets see when they will actually deliver it. now its 9 days liao since picked up

ayam in this industry, i just wont reveal which company. we pay more than that for basic and allowance. but now i dunno lah, too busy to see HR things.

last time got see because need to help them hire people

It's one bad decision by the top management, for venturing into ShopeeXpress.
After spending ton of CAPEX acquiring the warehouses across the nation, the trucks, the manpower, die-die also they have to carry on with that decision of that one person.
Because they know if they allow the buyer to select their own shipping company, surely no one will ever choose ShopeeXpress, their reputation already gone down the drain.
This is their final resort to recoup their investment.

These days really annoyed with shopee keep using Shopee Xpress for East Malaysia shipping. One item took 9 days while J&T can take 3-5 days only. I have one pending order it's been 11 days... 6 days ago last update... Who can I report to? MCMC?

Shopee too greedy they won't share the profits to other couriers.

My book from Kinokuniya dispatched on last Saturday arrived on Monday morning this week. Usually took around 4 days at least but yes PosLaju delivery speed has upgraded kaw kaw liao I'm shook.

Ekchelli i recalled wrong, it's 2.5k include allowance. but actually more than 2.5k lah. that's just basic salary + transportation allowance. got fuel card..

Should investigate Shopee so many anti consumer practices that prey on the uneducated. Their BNPL now straight charge interest rate upon use. Their “free” shipping BS (ask them pull out dictionary look up the meaning of “free” will do).

last week sent an item on sunday ( yes the post office opened on sunday now ), monday morning lorry pick up, next day delivered to recepient in mersing

own transport. if co provide sure not as much.

but even you see those lazada vans around, most are 3PC (3rd party contractors)...

Usually for delivery on Saturday they only do it on first and third Saturday of the month. Then staff clock out around 11am before 12pm I've asked the postman before. Sunday they all cuti.

Dang I don't mind paying full delivery fees if Shopee allowed me to pick PosLaju instead of auto assigned Shitpee xpress.

Turn off shopee logi la if not permanent at least temporary la...divert traffic to 3pl pls.

Tak cukup manpowrr lagi mau hog all the delivery order. Bodo piang.

Poslaju open 7 days a week these days. They're only closed on public holidays

The entire Shopee platform should be shut down for investigation.

for the mini post offices in mall; yes, open 7 days. but after cut-off and on weekends, parcels will backlog until collection on next working day.

for those not in malls, like the ones in bayan baru hub, i don't think it's open for public, but just for contract delivery (like... merchants).

those ordinary post offices definitely closed on weekends.

Depends, some company still give as little as 30 sen per parcel regardless of amount or distance..

I am also in this industry, so far for Driver(the one that drive company lorry to deliver) is paid as low as RM1.5k basic, and parcel commission is as low as 30 sen per parcel..

More money. Short sighted Chinaman company.

Why is MyCC involved with shopee and not consumer affairs or other Govt agencies

I usually send to the main, big poslaju branches that open 7 days a week, not the mall ones. Example like Pos Laju Kuala Lumpur, Pos laju Ampang, Poslaju Shah Alam. Each district usually have 1. In Klang Valley a lot, in other states normally only in the state capital or other major towns.

These big poslaju, no delay or backlog on collection. Even on weekends.

Because it is abusing its dominant market position to force sellers to use shopee express.

Sellers are forced to use shopee express, without consent. Even when they ask to change to other couriers, shopee doesnt allow.

This is considered as abuse of monopolistic position, hence under purview of the Competition Commission.

MyCC did fine both AirAsia and MAS before. but Federal Court ultimately ruled against MYCC's appeal, that MyCC had stepped onto MAVCOM's jurisdiction (plus many other excuses reasons that are in favour of AirAsia's position).

ISP and Telco under SKMM.

So MyCC cannot even peek into those.

MyCC purpose is to prevent monopoly (an entity work towards closing down competition so as to own the market to itself) and cartel (competitors gang-ed together to influence the market into a collective favour).

hmmm... i remember MyCC said in June/July about it will take another month to wrap up investigation (since February) into chicken cartel. silence after that?

Shopee express is super bad. Ampang to Ampang can also take 1 month plus. Pity the sellers on shopee:
1. cannot choose the logistic company
2. Almost always will get shopee express
3. Customer will always ask to not choose shopee express as if seller can choose. Then they go buy from other sellers
4. Send parcel on time but it would take 1 week plus minimum to arrive.
5. Shopee only release sales money once item is received and customer marked as received. If delivered but customer tak marked as received have to wait another week before money is released.

Really hope this materializes into something significant and the end of shopee express.

Yes many seller and buyers was upset with shopee decision for not letting customer choose their delivery partners

just walk in to any SPX hub in the morning, can ask for the Hub Leader.

This. They spend a lot to build out their last mile delivery services and now no more funding to staff and run it.

They cant dial back spx and change to third party for sending as this required them write down their investment on those warehouse, vans, sorting centre that they invest in on last year.

Wanna be like jd but fail cause no more money.

We used to live in golden age of shipping these past two years because they paid 5k+ to despatchman

Now it's only around 2k+ like any other job no where we gonna get the same quality

Yup, it applies to both lorry and rider, at least in my company.. Any parcel that weight less than 35kg is 30 sen per piece, and documents is 10 cent per piece.. For rider got fuel allowance(this depend on distance but I believe max is RM18 per day), but that also include ur own bike maintenance.. Lorry driver, they are issued with company fuel card so no mileage claims.. Maintenances cost for lorry is paid by the company, but this need to request from HQ, and they tend to reject things that seems unnecessary for them(Air conditioning repair for example)

Lorry driver, if they deliver parcel that is over 35kg, that parcel will earn them RM3.. Do note that there is no upper limit on this, means even if u carry half a ton parcel(Industrial stuff), means that parcel will only give u RM3..

Not to mention, delivery drivers/riders are a dead end job.. There is almost no career progression from there.. At best they will become group leader, and still have to go out daily for deliveries.. Thinking about managerial post??forget about it as company tend to take outsiders with required diploma/degree instead of training existing people who have been in company long enough, and probably know more about operation than those new people..


Younger driver tend to use this job, save up money to get vocational license(Full E license), and then goes to another company.. Middle aged one, either stay there due to no other suitable/better job, or have family duties that won't allow them to get E license and be days if not week away from home..

I think a company should give these loyal staff a chance, rather than taking outsiders , like you said, some of them has been in the co. long enough , probably yeah know more about the operations than these new people , who most of the time will leave for better prospect

Nah, they don't.. In my company, we have few employees who have been here over 20 years, and yet still a driver.. Their basic pay is also not that high, if I remember correctly that guy basic pay is like RM1.8k, and ofc same 30 cent per parcel.. Imagine getting paid RM1.8k basic on your 50's..

the 40s/50s staff normally will just stay there , hardly can go elsewhere
