KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 17): Indonesian unicorn coffee chain, Kenangan Coffee, made its debut in the Malaysian market with the official launch of its outlet at Suria KLCC, marking its first outlet outside of Indonesia.

Co-founder and chief executive officer Edward Tirtanata said the company's expansion beyond the Indonesian market started with Malaysia and it would be operating under brand name "Kenangan Coffee" for its international outlet.

He said Malaysia was chosen as the first country for its expansion plan due to the steady growth in its coffee culture, especially the grab-and-go concept, with many similarities shared between Malaysians and Indonesians in terms of taste profile.

"The food and beverage (F&B) sector's future also appears promising as Malaysia is transforming into a high-income digital economy with a key focus on digitalisation, in line with our business operation.

"We also started Kenangan Coffee with the aim of making quality coffee affordable and accessible for everyone and we are thrilled to be sharing our Indonesian coffee flavours with Malaysians," he said at the launch of the outlet on Monday.

Edward said the company plans to open up to 10 outlets in Malaysia by the end of the first quarter of 2023 with four locations already in the pipeline and set to open by the end of this year.

He said the other four locations soon to be launched are the MyTown Cheras, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, NU Sentral KL, and Sunway Pyramid in Petaling Jaya.

"Prior to entering new markets, especially within this region, we envisioned opening up to 100 outlets in the country and that is subject to the expansion rate for each country.

"For the Malaysian market, we do plan to enter the country in a big way," he added.

Founded in 2017, the company successfully expanded to more than 850 outlets in 64 cities in Indonesia and officially became the first Southeast Asia company to achieve a unicorn status in the F&B category in December last year.

Their profit margin should be dependent on the quality of bean since the other cost like coffee machine, renovation, and barista salary should be about the same. Been making my own cold brew for some time now and all my beans are bought from Shopee. So far I can conclude that any bean below RM20 for a 200~250g pack are Starbuck level aka shit tier. Get a medium quality bean around RM30 per pack and you can make better black coffee than 80% of the chain coffee shop out there.

I think some people do enjoy coffee coz many of them are buying take away coffee to drink in office or home. Just that many people don't know how to judge the quality of a coffee hence some cafe can sell shitty coffee with exorbitant price using shitty bean.

Just make your own coffee. Invest in an espresso machine, V60, French press and a good grinder. It taste better and cheaper in the long run.

Just buy a espresso machine and a bottomless portafilter with a good grinder that is either step less or adjustment settings in microns.

Practice on it and soon you will be pulling shots like a barista.

last time my mom got a nice pretty house maid from Flores, quite fair skin with curly hair
