You might not have heard of the telco Altel, but they actually are one of the minor service provider here in Malaysia. However, if you’re one of the dozens currently using an Altel prepaid line, you should know that the company is set to exit the market. In a statement posted on their website and their social media, Altel states that they wish to inform customers that the Altel Prepaid service will be terminated effective 31 December 2022.

FYI altel might be focusing on proton atlas os stuff (via ACO tech join venture) and also will keep the 4g service for X70/X50/etc head unit connectivity

Prepaid mvno business too few users, kinda failed venture, not surprising they shut down this in favor of aco tech venture

Net2One Sdn Bhd, the service provider for ALTEL Prepaid, would like to inform the public that the service will be terminated effective 31 December 2022 due to the restructuring of business activities under Altel Group of Companies.

Thus, ALTEL Prepaid subscribers are advised to port out promptly to other Service Providers or to be migrated to the Host Operator (Celcom) effective from 4th October 2022 if to maintain the original number.

ALTEL Prepaid is not Net2One Sdn Bhd core business

Customers given options to move to celcom or terminate with credits refunded until end of November

Starting December, if no action is taken by Customers, altel will automatically migrate to celcom and not eligible for refund anymore

Unless Customers elect to MNP to another carrier (other than celcom) in which no refund whatsoever due to MNP terms set by MCMC

Feel sad for the termination of Altel Telco....
Have been using since 2012....
Because of few user using Altel...the coverage is good & data is fast
The downside is their plan data, call is stuck in the 90's i think
Price for data is "tak boleh brain" with this era of many telco provide more reasonable plan for data & call that mostly unlimited and reasonable....
So sad that i will mnp to other telco cause been comfort with all the good coverage & fast data even price are pricy....
Maybe will mnp to Yoodo or Xox for reason its my 2nd sim/gateway sim...so not using a alot....
By the way...Altel will always be a good memory....that im a few that are rare to once using this rare telco...hahaha

.... direct-to-cell technology centre, which will be developed by the Chinese satellite technology company, Geespace and telecommunications company, Altel

signing ceremony of the joint venture agreement between Geespace and Altel

Direct-to-cell technology allows phones to receive telecommunication signals emitted by LEO satellites without any additional hardware. LEO satellites which operate at an altitude of 300-2,000 km above the earth’s surface, are cheaper and provide more efficient signal transmission.

Altel and Geespace are also understood to be working on a proof of concept by the second quarter of 2025 for LEO satellite IoT, High Precision Positioning and direct-to-cell technology which is hoped to be able to benefit Malaysians.
