ZUS Coffee plans 80 new outlets by year-end

ZUSPRESSO (M) Sdn Bhd is expected to expand by adding another 80 ZUS Coffee outlets by the end of this year, making it a total of 180 outlets across Malaysia.

Its GM Venon Tian said currently, they have 100 outlets nationwide, including 50 outlets in the Klang Valley and 20 outlets in the southern region.


He said the company is hoping to add more outlets up north, including in Kedah and Perlis. It also plans to further expand in the East Coast states of Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan.

“We are also expected to expand our outlets to East Malaysia in the fourth quarter of 2022 (4Q22) to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah…our key expansion (is) in the east coast (of the state) because logistically (it) is easier and will continue onward for our expansion in Tawau, Sandakan and further.

“As for Sarawak expansion, we will most possibly expand our outlets in the 1Q23,” he said after launching the ZUS Coffee Academy and the 100th outlet at Tropicana Gardens Mall.

The ZUS Coffee Academy is expected to create 1,000 job opportunities by year-end and through this educational arm, the company intends to raise thought leaders in the coffee industry.

It also aims to encourage creative expression through the art of coffee and equipping graduates with retail knowledge and other transferable skills for their career.

Tian said Zuspresso is not planning to open another academy in other states as it wants to centralise the learning centre.

However, those interested to learn can do so via online classes that the academy provides.

“On the job, baristas are also provided refresher courses to keep abreast with the latest developments in the coffee scene and given a platform to share their day-to-day experience serving the community.

“Massive planning and comprehensive training will birth 1,000 new qualified baristas with a strong commitment to quality in every output,” he added. —TMR

I rather spend around RM5k on equipment to get good coffee at home. Their coffee quite expensive.

Starbucks is still okay but nothing can beat a freshly pulled shot of espresso. I think I am getting a hang of it now and have managed to pull an espresso shot with decent crema on cheap preground espresso coffee. The secret is to preheat the portafilter in hot water and wipe down before loading up the puck.
