Influencer Tammy Tay recently revealed that she went to OnlyFans to make ends meet after taking a six-figure loan to keep her businesses afloat during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ms Tay, 30, was featured on the YouTube talk show “Just Saying,” during an episode of “Can Ask Meh” by Our Grandfather Story.

Ms Tay runs a facial salon and a pamper parlour in Joo Chiat, both of which were severely hit when the industry was forced to suspend operations during the pandemic.

At one point, Ms Tay was losing five-figure amounts for consecutive months.

She refused to shut down her businesses as she “felt bad” for her staff and opted to take up a five-year loan for rental and manpower costs.

“I had to like exhaust my savings and just like pay staff and then rental. And then I took up a loan just to pay my staff. I didn’t want to fire my staff because I felt so bad, which was kind of a big mistake. I should have, but I didn’t think it was going to be so long,” she said.

When safety measures forced her to shut down her stores completely, Ms Tay said she couldn’t do anything yet still had to pay rent.

The salon was also new, so she couldn’t get government grants then.

“I got to make ends meet, I got to do something without much investment. At the back of my head, I’ve seen people do OnlyFans. I’ve heard a lot about OnlyFans. I’m actually a fan of some of the creators,” Ms Tay revealed.

She thought that she could pay off the loan within 10 months or less through the platform.

Ms Tay announced her entry into OnlyFans in late July and admitted making “crazy returns”, and she didn’t know she could make that much money on the platform.

When asked how much, she said around a “five-figure” sum in a month.

On top of subscribing, Ms Tay’s fans can also pay S$40 to unlock a Telegram service to which she personally replies, giving priority to those who tip her more.

Regarding her kids, aged seven and eight, Ms Tay said they are currently at the age when they don’t know, but added that she is open to telling them about this part of her life.

She said that if it weren’t for OnlyFans, she didn’t have a clue how to pay off her loan as she didn’t have a normal resume nor received much education.

When asked if she would continue OnlyFans even after paying off her loan, Ms Tay said she’s not sure how long she would last on the platform as it was difficult creating new content.
