Im 27 years old with 2.5 years of working experience, i would just like to ask for opinions on whether earning RM 3.5k per month is normal for people of my age? and is it ok if i apply for goverment job at this age?

Side note : I have no house and car commitments atm and my study loan is less than RM1k to be settled. My biggest expense is on rental which costs me RM600 per month.

If you never switch job, and only doing the same job, not promoted internally, then I would think this is normal. The only way out is job hopping or get yourself promoted.

I’m not sure if it is normal nowadays but many people I know at 27 already earning more than 15k.
Around 30 years old reach 20k already.

Those I have seen personally commanding those salaries at those age, normally belong to an MNC (Multinational company), Oil and Gas field (offshore work, high risk high reward), Tech company, startups with high funding, investment banking, or those running their own business.

Amazing, those that earning 15K at 27 years old, they are always the type of people forummers know and not forummers themselves. Right? tongue.gif

My opinion:

(1) Value or worth - whether it is a pieace of antique or job vacancy, it is always related to demand and supply. if ones has the skill that many employers seek, earning 15K at 27 is not mission impossible.
(2) Cost vs benefit - if an employer offers an employee RM 15K a month, the profit generated by the employee should be more than RM 30K per month. What type of work or industry is able to generate a RM 30K profit per head? If the employee is not able to generate RM 30K per month, it is a matter of time the employer will cease to operate.
(3) Salary scales are open - just need to go to a few websites to download.
