I tried setting up my own gate automation before, and honestly, wiring can get confusing fast, especially when rain causes weird gate behavior. For me, a lot of problems started when the backup battery died, connections corrode super quick and then the motor just wouldn’t respond at all, even though the PCB lights were blinking as usual. Replacing the battery fixed most issues, but direct wiring attempts like yours never really worked for me, probably because those boards don’t like running without a good battery buffer. Now I’m looking at upgrading the whole setup, including considering a bifold garage door since it’s more practical for tight driveways. There’s actually some useful info online about this type of upgrade if you want to make your access smarter and a bit more reliable.
