I have a AMD pc, which runs perfectly fine on windows 7 but after installed a clean version of windows 10, even firefox lags and hangs, its like the cpu maxes out easily. Its a freshly installed version on a ssd. It boots quite fast probably due to the ssd, but workload, pretty slow and laggy. All the official drivers installed, updated. Still i dont feel satisfied. My specs are way too old to run windows 10? But it runs super smooth on windows 7 ultimate though rclxub.gif

Specs:

amd fx6300
250gb ssd samsung
8gb ram

Upgrade to 16GB RAM.

My E440 with 8GB and SSD also quite slow with W10. After bumping the RAM to 16GB, now all very smooth.

What do you use pc for? casual usage on old PC = Linux.
You can run Win10 but requires a lot of tweaking such as disable graphical effects and remove the unnecessary service in order to bring down the ram and resource usage in default Win10.

Also, need to debloat W10 to reduce the resource overheads. W10 has too many background apps running without the user knowing.

Windows 10 purposely deployed updates that tank old Dual Core machines.

The problem starts right after Windows 10 ver 1909. If you can install that version and then stop the upgrade, your pc will be smooth.

I assume you ran some updates even after you ignore a feature update right?

Another things to consider is old cpu vulnerability(specter, meltdown etc ) mitigation patches in OS, they might takes out chunk of the performance out of old cpu, old os such as Win 7 already no more patch hence youd feels smooth even fully updated.

Check whether all the Cores are utilized correctly.

You need the stripped down version, desktop version of win 10 has higher ram and cpu requirements
Another bottleneck is storage speed, ram cached SSD,is order of magnitude faster than normal ssd and hdd

Don't waste anymore money to upgrade one by one. Straight go to latest technology, processor you can go one generation older but not too far. Software has grown more complex and the resources needed have increased dramatically.

The graph below shows you how much different your processor performance in the benchmark.

Ok ive decided to buy a new rig to cover future updates. Time to upgrade.

I have a quick question, how much can i sell my rig? Everything still working fine. Good condition.

HexaCore AMD FX-6300, 3800 MHz (19 x 200)
24GB KINGSTON RAM (8+8+4+4)
MSI 970A-G43 (MS-7693)

Whats the value for all this? I better find out the price here before i start selling. Well, one mans junk is another mans treasure.
