Hello to all modders,forumers,..

I want to share with you all modders about modding OR creating a chassis by using an ANGLE.Im currently planning to make a case from scratch, from structure, side panel, drive bays etc.

Ive seen a lot modders around the globe made their cases using angle, but its more better to share it with you all.. biggrin.gif

Im not really sure to make a base structure using a steel or alu angle is it might not be really strong..

come2,share2.. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

This is the things that i mean by angle..

Difficult to find the thick aluminum 1s. I bought sum thin 1s last time. Too soft n flexible. The neighbourhood hardware store here cant get teh thick type.

Ive found alu angle at a hardware place, and they r selling at rm 18 for 20feet,the angler is 2mm thick,is it strong enough to build a structure from it..?

my plan is to build a 480 to 520 cm tall case..but im afraid that it will collapse.. cry.gif

i'm using a 1mm thick ones for my projects right now and used rivets to hold them to acrylic....

i believe that they are quite strong if you put enough rivets plus you dont put really really heavy things inside....

u can go for aluminum stockish to look for more option, some come with column and some with ribs......... much stronger........

2mm is more then enough...........

I think, most importantly, u learn up on trusses from those civil engineering books if u got some basic physics background. It helps u alot in determing the suitable size and material to be used. if u can, use thicker alu angle for the outer structure, but must also include some support beams inside, like my Antec SuperLanBoy, it needs a support beam just below the PSU area, to make sure if the stuffs inside are heavy, it won't bend the case out of shape as the Alu used are very very thin.

Nice idea u have there. All the best in ur journey.

Thats mean ur acrylic will be permanently stick to the chassis right if use rivets..? Ive been looking forward to use rivets but i dont want the alu or acrylic to permanently stick to the chassis..

Yup,mostly cases are made of 2mm to 3 mm alu,but im not really ure about how thick the plexi or acrylic needed to make whole transparent case..

maybe ill try to get to bro BOMBMAN about the 1mm or 2mm alu sheet..its really difficult to find it at normal hardware shops..

Thats the big point,it is very hard to handle the PSU part,it is the most heaviest part of all hardware IMO..
Maybe Antec,Lian li,Silverstone and all other casing manufacturer uses 2mm-3mm thich alu to get 100% strengh for their cases, but most importantly, they are using high grade and highly recommended stuffs..

In this case,im just using a normal alu and standard acrylic.. sweat.gif

U can use thin Alu and make it into trusses like the above structure, it'll hold the heavy PSU and mobo. Most importantly, is the angle of joints are correct, then u'll get a strong rig with minimum weight and price.

Im not really sure what to use to combined all the angle.Either using screws,rivets,welding..

each of the screws, rivets, weldings have their own pros and cons (good and bad)

welding aluminum is difficult, not advicable............

well not necessary to use angle all the time, u can use profile, thick sheet at certain place to carry the load. just dun try to make things too long, and u can always make a small ribs to provide extra strength on heavy components supports........and speaking of aluminum, ask for 6000 series component for extra strength at PSU if u so worried about....

arcylic dun need that thick, a bit waste........count on ur structure is a better way to

Well you may not need to be a civil or mechanical expert, just use some common knowledge would be good enough............

I'll suggest bolts and buts if weight isn't too much of a concern initially. Removing the rivet in a later stage for modification can be a hassle too.
