 Why did I get S Pass instead of EP?

I received a job offer ($6k) from a company in Singapore after months of applying SG jobs with 2 years of mechanical engineering work experience & UK degree… Today I got an email from the HR that my S pass application was approved.

Initially, I thought I should be getting EP since my salary exceeds the minimum qualifying salary for EP ($5k)…

Some questions:
- Does anyone know whether there are other criteria that might impact the work pass level?
- Can I ask HR why they applied for S pass instead of EP? (I wonder whether it’s my profile strength issue or other reasons that might lead to this…)
- What are the downsides of getting a S pass vs EP?

Suggest you ask the company HR for the reason(s) MOM gave SP instead of EP. It could be because the company applied for SP.

Congrats and join the working in sg group.

Every company is limited to a certain number of EPs. If the EPs for that company is used up, then the next hire would be downgraded to S-pass.

Happened to my friend. He was an EP holder. When it expired, he was renewed with an S-pass. He was told that EP priority was given to the top management and AMDKs.
