Hi everyone. Im a first time buyer property who recently signed my SAP in July. My property price was around RM 560k. My SAP was dated in July. Well according to the recent announcement by our beloved PM, i will be eligible for 50% exemption in stamping. However, the lawyer office is asking me to pay in full amt 1st for the stamp duty (as there's no further indication from the govt on how the exemption works). She also mentioned that I can "merayu" later for the 50% refund on my own self (which i find it ridiculous)

What do you sifus think about this?

Your lawyer is not wrong la. Like you said, announcement by our beloved PM that you will be eligible for stamp duty exemption mah ~ just an announcement lo. It's not official until it's gazetted.

Govt policy announcement and implementation are two different thing.

If your lawyer submit the SnP to lhdn for adjudication and the counter staff say that there is no further instruction from higher up for a reduction, lhdn will reject the document.

But if you think your lawyer is not telling the truth, you can walk in to lhdn to enquire.

even if you call to relevant gov department also they cant give you any firm answer. so at the end you need to pay first too.
