I need opinions on which colour temperature I should install for my living room and bed room.

My wall is vanilla white and my furniture and flooring is all natural wood colour, I'm afraid that if I install 3000k lighting, it makes the room looks too yellowish.

If I install 4000k, I'm afraid it takes away the welcoming and cozy feel.

4000k will be better. 3000k will be too yellow for living room, for bedroom still acceptable

Also take note 3000k wont be as bright as 4000k even with the same lumen figures

I change all to 6500K light after having a kid, better for reading. Kids tend to read any place they like.

Go with 3000k as it will make you feels more relax. but make sure you pick the COB or LED with good CRI >85 and high lumen value >700.

I didn't know about CRI until you mentioned it.

No wonder my cheap Mr DIY lighting makes my art poster look like shit.

It's kinda hard to find a CRI above 85. Most bulbs are rates CRI 80 only.

for general lighting best you go with 4000k, then you can have some seperate decorative / mood lighting (eg: eyeball spotlights, LED strips) that uses 3000k

I would suggest you to go for 4000K. Still feel warm and cosy yet not too dark. But its really depends on you. Please take note that quality of lighting such as Lm, CRI, flickering, beam angle etc are important too. Depends on your applications. I pay alittle bit more for quality lighting for my new house and the outcome is really making a difference

F**k it. I'm gonna go with tunable smart light instead.

So far I'm considering Yeelight and Philips Wiz.

I'm pretty happy with my Yeelights. I definitely like the tunable colour, dimming ability, and scheduling. What's not to like? Oh... price

Yeah, I need at least 6 pieces, that's gonna cost a bomb. Not to mention how long it's gonna last.

You have to be really sure you gonna make use of the tunable function frequently, otherwise its gonna be a waste of money as usually once you find your desired settings, its gonna remain there.

Cheaper alternative would be to go with normal downlights for your ceiling, then install a single/double bulb pendant somewhere in the corner, or get a standing light so you can use smart bulbs, that will also change up the atmosphere a bit

I decided to buy my lighting from Taobao, buy my ID is against it because he said it might have compatible issue with our electrical wire.

The reason I want to buy from Taobao because it's has more choices and higher quality(CRI<90). Meanwhile the ID company has 2 choices, which is Philips and some unknown OEM brand.


I have very limited knowledge in electrical, What should I look for to make sure the lights is compatible with our wiring?

Your ID trying to BS you into getting their lights, more commission for them perhaps. Lighting wiring (live, ground and neutral) should be standard unlike plug point.

Most likely the unknown OEM brand is from China / Made in China also

But this is my experience, i got no issues with lights from China (in terms of compatibility). Maybe others will have different opinion

Beware of the ID that is trying to con you, or is such a low class that does not know enough to advise you about lighting.

As long as the lights are rated at 220 V - 240 V, you are fine. (The lights may even be worldwide compatible rated 110 V - 240 V, you can get this also)

To ts.... if you havent committed anything (eg deposit) to the ID yet, suggest you look for another ID or contractor

Since they already made that statement, if you insist on using your own lights and anything wrong happen during installation, most likely they will push the responsibility away
