Hello everyone,

Would like to ask for your opinion for outdoor & indoor water filter that i am surveying for my landed house.

For outdoor water filter, compared the sand filter (my current house is using) vs membrane, felt like membrane is better? (i might be wrong) but would like to know your opinions/comments/inputs notworthy.gif
For indoor water filter, too many choices but i am leaning towards tankless and can get hot/warm/room temp water confused.gif

Appreciate if you can share your pov in term of maintenance (backwash, spare parts replacement, after sales service, etc.)
too many brands and all ads showing very positive rating lol rclxub.gif

Thanks in advance.

**sorry those options just what i can think of at the moment, you can suggest the others as well rclxm9.gif

Im currently using intact outdoor membrane and indoor hot/cold with tank, as well as 2x 4 step filter under sink generic ones.

IMO there isnt really much diff between the OEM brands and SK/coway/LG etc etc.

Whichever brand, check tbe maintenance cost whether it fits the yearly budget.

Many I know, delay on maintenance after realising on the high cost.

that's right.. but many brands SA just briefly explain on the maintenance and some even told the outdoor membrane filter just need to backflush so that the filter will last for years
for in house filter, i am thinking whether should i go for brands like Coway/SK since they had technician coming over according to their maintenance schedule (eg: 2months/4months once)

afaik most OEM POU tank/tankless are similar in design. you can always go back to the ones you bought for service/maintainence. and even if they were to go under other resellers can also service/maintain it.

brands like coway/SK will definitely have better service but price is also up there as well. if you can afford it then sure why not. basically the maintainence you've technically paid upfront already.

Filters are meant to be replaced after it 'expired'. Backflush does not help to maintain water quality as 'things' can be trapped within the filters and cannot be removed.

Are there any services that cleans/replace the outdoor water filter?
Mine has been installed for around 5 years plus and never changed the filter before.

Refer to your seller. They will normally provide after sale maintenance services. If they oredi closed shop, try asking other sellers ... some may or not have same replacement filters and parts.

Hello,

I am commenting from a perspective of a water engineer.

I would whole heartedly recommend getting a POE (point of entry) water filtration system first as it the first barrier into your home. Incoming water quality varies and having a filter to block out the contaminants is a good thing to have.

Sand filters are traditionally cheap but the filtration size is not as small compared to membrane but it does the job. It does not require frequent maintenance up to a couple of years where you need to replace the whole filter media due to being saturated with contaminants (Also wet sand and gravel are very heavy to move by 1 person). Yes you do need to do backwash from time to time but not as frequent with membrane. Also depending on your house area for placing the filter because of the size.
Membrane is a step up due to smaller pore sizes for filtration but it's also a con in itself where overtime those pores will get covered up by contaminants. Nothing that a periodic backwash can't fixed but same with sand filtration, you will require to replace the filter cartridge, albeit faster than sand filters but easier to replace by 1 person. In a nutshell, for me it would be membrane for POE.

TLDR
Filter recommendation: Membrane > Sand Filter
Maintenance : Membrane > Sand Filter
Spare parts replacement: Membrane > Sand Filter (You just have to change 1 cartridge)
Aftersales service: equal (Sand can be bought traditionally anywhere and if you happen to find a water filtration specialist, chances are they also sell membranes)

For POU filters, I think any brands and models are fine. I would go for tank because I like cold water whenever I want to. If you favor weight and cleaner water, tankless would be better since you get water straight from the filters.

my 2 cents icon_rolleyes.gif

There is a new POE water filter in town but mainly for Condominiums and Apartments only, not recommended for landed houses. Aquaphor Viking Pro.

It is able to filter chlorine, rust, heavy metals and many more, even UF membrane filters in the market with 0.01 micron unable to filter.

Dont worry, it wont reduce water pressure like UF MEMBRANE filters because the filtration is only 5 micron. It is able to filter so many types of contaminants despite filtration 5 micron only because it is using CarbFibre Block Technology with 4th Gen Aqualen similar to the filtration used in their drinking water filter Crystal Eco Pro (new).Imagine using something SIMILAR to drinking water quality, wont the water be super clean?

Compact Design approximately 260mm x 610mm, no backwash required (using cartridge system), superior filtration, wont this be the ultimate POE water filter for condos?
