Hello everyone,
Would like to ask for your opinion for outdoor & indoor water filter that i am surveying for my landed house.
For outdoor water filter, compared the sand filter (my current house is using) vs membrane, felt like membrane is better? (i might be wrong) but would like to know your opinions/comments/inputs
For indoor water filter, too many choices but i am leaning towards tankless and can get hot/warm/room temp water
Appreciate if you can share your pov in term of maintenance (backwash, spare parts replacement, after sales service, etc.)
too many brands and all ads showing very positive rating lol
Thanks in advance.
**sorry those options just what i can think of at the moment, you can suggest the others as well

Hello,
I am commenting from a perspective of a water engineer.
I would whole heartedly recommend getting a POE (point of entry) water filtration system first as it the first barrier into your home. Incoming water quality varies and having a filter to block out the contaminants is a good thing to have.
Sand filters are traditionally cheap but the filtration size is not as small compared to membrane but it does the job. It does not require frequent maintenance up to a couple of years where you need to replace the whole filter media due to being saturated with contaminants (Also wet sand and gravel are very heavy to move by 1 person). Yes you do need to do backwash from time to time but not as frequent with membrane. Also depending on your house area for placing the filter because of the size.
Membrane is a step up due to smaller pore sizes for filtration but it's also a con in itself where overtime those pores will get covered up by contaminants. Nothing that a periodic backwash can't fixed but same with sand filtration, you will require to replace the filter cartridge, albeit faster than sand filters but easier to replace by 1 person. In a nutshell, for me it would be membrane for POE.
TLDR
Filter recommendation: Membrane > Sand Filter
Maintenance : Membrane > Sand Filter
Spare parts replacement: Membrane > Sand Filter (You just have to change 1 cartridge)
Aftersales service: equal (Sand can be bought traditionally anywhere and if you happen to find a water filtration specialist, chances are they also sell membranes)
For POU filters, I think any brands and models are fine. I would go for tank because I like cold water whenever I want to. If you favor weight and
cleaner water, tankless would be better since you get water straight from the filters.
my 2 cents
