less expensive and cant play PS or PS 2 games. No HDMI too ?

More evidence of the all-but-confirmed "low cost model" 40GB version of the PLAYSTATION 3 has popped up in a variety of locations, with Best Buy stock listings showing the new hard disk drive equipped model packed with a copy of Spider-man 3, the movie, on Blu-ray. It's unclear how that's an incentive. The retailer lists the in-stock date as October 28th.

In addition to Best Buy's internal documentation, European retailer Play is now soliciting interest on its web site for the PS3 40GB model, aka the CECHG01. Play specifies the console as having only 2 USB ports and being incompatible with PlayStation 2 games.

No confirmation on price yet, but we're hearing talk of 449 Euro for the newest model and expect to learn more within the week.

Evil Avatar is also reporting that on the Play.com site, it states this new PlayStation 3 model will not be able to play PlayStation 2 games. That would be quite the trade-off: a PS3 system for $400, but no backwards compatibility. Still, if the PlayStation 2 price drop to $99.99 happens, it won't be such a blow.

the HDMI thingy not confirm yet, maybe got maybe not. People are speculating that the $399 will be without the HDMI output because making Panasonic, Samsung, Sharp, Philips, Pioneer will be very angry at Sony if HDMI is included. People will be drawn to get a dua function $399 PS3 instead of the one function only BD players at <$500.

anyhow - since Xbox component can support 1080p gaming content, PS3 should be able to do the same lah.

yeah, i read that rumors that they'll remove E.E chip and the ps2 gfx board. to cut cost.
what i dont get it, isnt backward compatibility is within the software itself?
how are they gonna implement that when newer firmware with patching ps2 games
be installed on these non-backward ps3?.

hopefully they'll release this soon, coz raya is not so far away tongue.gif
erk, spiderman 3 bd? i'd rather use it to clean my shyte. sweat.gif
