Hi Guys, I've gotten an interview with Mckinsey for an associate position in KL and wondering what is the salary range is?

Appreciate if anyone has any insight. A little bit of insight, I've 10yrs + working experience with a post grad degree.

many many many years ago, certain foreign consulting firms like BCG and Mckinsey pay their consultants the same global base pay. It could still be the same practice even now.

If it is the same, associate level in the states essentially is the level for a MBA grad. So at the low side is 10K usd base salary per month.

the big 3 consulting firms, certain foreign banks like JP or Goldman, certain O&G firms only have such a policy to pay a group of their employee global standard salary.

a associate level consultant is paid north of 120K usd in the States, so if McKinsey continue the practice, it should be that.

Of course, this is an aberration.... us commoners in normal firms don't get that much....

Were you in the front office like IB or trading desk?

Middle and back office I don't think will be given the same package

Better wait until you clear all of them and hear back. From what I heard one of the MBB have an allingment policy of:
1) Associate: local pay scale
2) Manager: regional pay (if SEA, should follow SGD)
3) Partner: global pay (USD)

Associate pay still high though as it should start from RM10k but it's mostly for experienced hires.

I assume you are treating them as jumping platform? None of my known network in MBB joined for money as all feedback no sense of job security as they can feel getting let go at any moment due to the kpi setting.

It's more than anyone makes locally at your level.

You havent gotten in yet so no point drooling / crying over salary. Is your question back to the Partner really going to be "how much pay ah?"

frankly the thread is started just for the curiosity to address if there's any room for negotiation with them i.e - market survey.

primary objective is still career growth and yup...mba grads start from associate level.

I have friends currently in or formerly from McKinsey. The salary structure below partner is benchmarked regionally, but they do get an advantage in KL because the salary in Singapore is already high.

Having said that, one of them worked with me in oil and gas and he took a pay cut to join McKinsey at the associate level primarily because of career growth. I think the network and brand recognition does open doors so I would personally take the pay cut and learning experience and suffer for 2 years before moving on. Sadly I never got past the second level interviews though haha biggrin.gif

Isnt associate level like beginner? Can command rn10k? Damn i am in the wrong job.

nope. Associate is basically experience hire.

the ranking system is more along this line: Analyst, Associate, Managers/Team Leader, Partner.
It is very similar to IBs from US banks.

And the age range can be wide. I had seen Associates as young as 26 to as old as late 30s/early 40s. Reason: each came in from different career path. Easiest would be a few years of work experience and get an MBA from an Ivy.
