Hi, can anyone share insights on why mobile operators haven't enabled IPv6 yet ? I only know the mobile operator YES has it enabled.

U Mobile does seem to if I try it on those ipv6 test sites

If you check network properties on your phone, does it show the IPv6 address ?

Digi is already using IPv6. And yes, I've checked on the mobile data properties

That's good news thanks. How is it speed wise ?

Maxis, Digi, Celcom, Umobile and Yes have IPv6 enabled default.
You may check for apn settings if you not getting IPv6 addresses.
*
I'm on Yoodo and I don't think they have IPv6 enabled.

haiz....

haiz.......
can i say my place celcom weak = entire nation celcom weak????
most ISP stll manage to allocate some IPv4 addresses

when they run out IP to distribute, they give u ipv6.......
*
I just chat with Yoodo support and it seems they are using IPv4 only for now.

i just hope u understand this :

IPv4, IPv6 can be deployed together.
IPv4 is so much more "rare" compared to IPv6 addresses
in most case, new telco are given more ipv6 allocation.
Those asking about IPv6 support from isp, is actually not even a relevant question....

IPv6 vs IPv4 is more to a allocation/availability problem.
is not a a Feature/funcation
So, if any1 question they support IPv6 or not?
is usually question the wrong thing.

I believe no TELCO can survive WITHOUT IPv6 TODAY. none.

the question is always, did they allocate ipv6 to you or not.

Layman term.

If Najib dont want lend you money.
You put up a Question here. Did Najib Broke???
( because i ask him borrow me money 3 times, no response )

Najib dont borrow u money DOES NOT EQUAL Najib no money.

U dont get ipv6, in most case, they allocated ipv4 for u...

Valid points. Thanks for the feedback.

Ipv6 is part of mandatory LTE spec.
It's up to your device to route and use it or not.
*
I would have used it already but someone already mentioned that Yoodo haven't allocated it yet. Only time will tell..

Maxis LTE/NR IPv6 is routable Prefix and Address, to avoid Hotspot detection need play with some IPv6 NAT and Firewall using ROS 7.3+

IPv6 Firewall NAT: Using router IPv6 address instead of device address, like IPv4 LAN-WAN
CODE

ipv6 firewall nat add action=masquerade chain=srcnat comment="defconf: masquerade" out-interface-list=LTE

IPv6 Firewall Mangle: Change TTL to 64 (Default Unix (Linux, BSD, macOS) value)
CODE

ipv6 firewall mangle add action=change-hop-limit chain=postrouting comment="change TTL" dst-prefix=::/0 new-hop-limit=set:64 out-interface-list=WAN passthrough=yes protocol=!icmpv6 src-prefix=::/0

This seem to be on Mikrotik for home use.. How this impact mobile IPv6 on phones ?

well, plug-in phone to mikrotik USB, and IPv6 DHCP Client can get address and PC can use IPv6 from LTE device

thing is, IPv4 traffic very congested, sometime slow and high ping, IPv6 give better latency and lower IX/hop

IPv6 have 2 address: interface address, prefix address

LTE interface have own address, while client behind router also have internet reachable address
*
Ah understood. You were referring to getting IPv6 to work using LTE as your backup line hooked up to a Mikrotik router via USB. Hopefully this can be brought to Mikrotik's attention and they will implement this as a on/off feature when using LTE+IPv6 as a backup internet line.

You mentioned interface and prefix addresses. Are they LL(Link-Local) addresses or GUA(Global Unique Addresses/Routable addresses) ?

In order for Mikrotik to assign IPv6 addresses to LAN, it needs to be routed a /64 from LTE right ? How does it work in your case ?

I assume your LTE phone only has a single routable IPv6 address.

I checked my IP number using Google and "What is my ip address" and I have two IP numbers, one IPV4 and one IPV6.
My IPV4 is likely a CGNAT, so, I cannot access my internal apps like CCTV, etc from outside without tunnellin service like
I2P or TOR.  My IPV6 is an actual IP Number that can be accessed from outside my network. Since U Mobile dynamically
changes my IPV6 every day, I use a dynamic DNS service to update my IP number.

I believe IPV6 has potential as every citizen of Malaysia can run their own websites online and host all types of content
that cannot be censored.

Thanks for the feedback. I switch to Hotlink a week ago and they too support IPv6. I wish I could turn off IPv4 when on LTE/4G to test out IPv6-only
but that's not possible unless you root your device.
