Prey is a 2022 American science fiction horror action film directed by Dan Trachtenberg and written by Patrick Aison, based on the Predator franchise by Jim Thomas and John Thomas. It is the fifth installment in the franchise and a prequel to the first four films. It stars Amber Midthunder, Dakota Beavers, Michelle Thrush, Stormee Kipp, Julian Black Antelope, and Dane DiLiegro. The story revolves around Naru, a skilled Comanche warrior, protecting her tribe from a highly evolved alien predator that hunts humans for sport, fighting against the wilderness and fur traders to keep her people safe.

Development of the film began during the production of The Predator (2018), when producer John Davis was approached by Trachtenberg and Aison, with a concept that they had been developing since 2016. The film's title was revealed to be the codename for the fifth installment in the franchise.

Prey premiered at the San Diego Comic-Con on July 21, 2022, and was released by 20th Century Studios as a Hulu original film in the United States on August 5, 2022. The film received positive reviews from critics, who praised the action sequences, Midthunder's performance, visual effects, cinematography, and the Comanche representation.

Prey (2022)

How is this movie?

In a word, authentic!

It is authentic to the Comanche tribe.

It is authentic to the beautiful, beautiful landscape used as the back drop.

And most importantly it is authentic to the creature, Predator.

This movie blind sided me.

After all the empty promises made by the other sequels and cross over for the Predator, I did not have high hopes for it.

When it was announce that it would be via streaming only, I just rolled my eyes and said, there you go.

Having had the chance to watch it, this is a worthy prequel to Predator.

Why is it worthy?

It was true to the Predator movie (to the main creature) and took some tidbits from THAT movie, and wrote a strong story based on THAT tidbit and we have this movie.

I enjoyed this movie immensely.

My only complain is why is this on streaming only>

What the heck is Disney thinking?

Did it do this to reduce competition with it's other more "important" movies (Marvel etc)?

I don't know.

If you are a fan of Predator and like good movies (bloody ones).

This is a GOOD movie for you.

My Two Sen

Its from Hulu and they are a streaming company. It wont go into cinemas. Just have to accept that some contents will appear as pure streaming. Watched Gray Man yet. Its a good show but Netflix exclisive.....will never appear on other platforms.

Now hoping will someone will continue the story of Alien Covenant.

Its very good. Even if only streaming exclusive, I'd say its easily outdone cinema quality. Maybe I'm nostalgic with arnold's predator setting in deep muddy jungle, prey uses similar setup too. Plus the classic outwit predator's infrared with masking body heat. Amber midthunder is definitely a badass, and a hot one too haha

I do enjoy the movie despite its inability to bring something really new to the table. The plot is pretty much linear and predictable.

nice movie...enjoyed it, the build up to the finale has a different vibe but necessary. The Predator's gauntlet is a brutal device smile.gif Slice and dice is the theme here...hope they can make a Predator vs Samurai next.

It shows that predator did not advanced as much as humans do.
Thus we don't have to be afraid of alien invasion.

only grouse was the tribe speaking in english?

and while in theory and also the movie execution, tying a rope to an axe for retrieval may sound good and exciting but highly doubt it work nearly as flawlessly as seen in the movie. lol.

all in all a good movie reminiscence of the good old first predator movie.

i notice all the predator movies, almost each time the predator have a strong upper hand due to their invisible tech. once that is done, the humans usually can kawdim it already. that's really a super unfair advantage. imagine if a soldie have full gear with invisible cloak and infra red goggles, it will be a fair fight then.

and anyone notice the biggest cgi scene was probably the tiger?

the original language is english.
but they release dubbed in comanche as well. but i found the dubbed version is very bad, the sound totally weird then i changed back to original language.

come on guys, its a movie. skip the logic about the language, axe tight with a rope logic etc laugh.gif .
