QUOTE(blindmutedeaf @ Aug 4 2022, 03:59 PM) yaya change new, but certain ppl very paranoid that if the thermos spoil in closed (where water no longer flow). so poke some small holes for this purpose Coolant will continue to circulate even when the thermostat is closed through bypass hose. It just the matter of more circulation or less.

QUOTE(dark_axl21 @ Aug 4 2022, 05:31 PM) Got it! Completely disregarded the fact that engines needs heat to function. My bad. By any chance he asks you to not use coolant mix in your car cooling system too? If yes, time to look for other more qualified mechanic.

Just picking up new stuffs everyday. Mine was worse I guess in a way. Poured what was suspected engine oil into my radiator tank causing all sorts of overheating issues and rubber hose deterioration. Still a Perodua authorised service centre. Those people really just scam you in any way they can while charging you a premium.

QUOTE(Thrust @ Aug 5 2022, 04:31 PM) Don't install back the old thermostat. Replace with a new thermostat. Yeah, replaced it with a new thermostat since it does not cost much to begin with. Does anyone know whether replacing the radiator cap with 0.9 bar vs the original 1.1 bar will cause any harm? This was done as there was no stock for 1.1 bar cap at the shop and I was in a rush This post has been edited by smokymcpot: Aug 5 2022, 06:48 PM

I can see your mechanic's point. A stuck thermostat strands a car, and if you are bad luck, seizes the engine.

Actually, if an owner takes care of the cooling system and only uses coolant, it won't rust and risk the thermostat from getting stuck. Thermostat gets stuck due to rust.
