Not true.

I have a few friends who came back during Covid and was offered good pay by Singapore companies (ex-employers).

Good pay meaning higher than Malaysia but lower than Singapore.

Anyway, all happy because every year sure have free pay increment due to depreciation of RM.

Congrats...

Singapore more cost effective to work from home especially for those under regional or Corp ..because office rental not cheap

Best work from home in jb ... then go sg when required

Pay sg local income tax and keep your sg there ...
*
you are not supposed to and illegal to do that. if you generating your productivity in Malaysia, you need to pay Malaysia tax..
i was working from home during MCO period. syukur LHDN prihatin and waived all the taxes for the productivity i generate in Malaysia during that period.

Now border is opened, your daily travel needs to resume. My work can perform remotely (as i already did it for more than 2 years) but i still do my daily travel.
If LHDN finds out and wants to be anal, you will be in deep shyt...

There was once a minister said "passport is a privileged and not an entitlement". All they have to do is remove this privileged for you and you are screwed.

as long as you step foot in malaysia even for 1 min, its calculated as a day. The 300k daily traveler spend more than 300 days in Malaysia. We also spend more than 200 days in SG.

You will need to enter SG from time to time to satisfy Singapore tax requirement. Otherwise you kena 15% tax

M'sia try to implement taxation on oversea income brought home starting this year but was last minute abolised. I won't be surprise if they bring up this law again

Also there's implication to SG company that employ such worker. They are deemed to outsource their job overseas. So company will pay different corporate tax rate then they are found to do so...

You think the lhdn officer so baik.hati and prihatin? 😄

They will tax you if possible but they cannot ...

That's why msia intro law on tax money earned oversea and transfer bank to msia ...
*
There are tax treaty for income derive outside malaysia doesn't need to pay local income tax if we have paid the foreign tax . That's why i said we cannot generate our productivity in Malaysia and earn SGD.
The law you mentioned were postponed to 2026. I went and read thru all those when they wanted to introduce this law in Jan 2022. went as far as consulting a tax agent as well. Until 2026 there is no issue transfering money back.

The problem now is if the productivity is generated in Malaysia and you are employed as a SG headcount. both your employer and the employee can be fine by Malaysia gov.

As for TS case, hope that he gets paid in RM with SGD convert instead of getting SGD and trying to do illegal stuff. My friend gets a job in SG pre-covid that wfh. Due to this tax issue, the company offered to pay her via an agency in Malaysia the same rate she got paid in SGD under Malaysia payroll.

i'm wfh for a singaporean company.. accounting firm.. so far so good..

good thing is the bosses and colleagues are nice and genuine type, no office politics, no drama.. workload is not too high.. decent salary.. and being wfh of course save so much time on commute and eating out.. have time to cook my own lunch and dinner so can save more money.. at lunch time can have a nap..

bad thing so far is need to turn on laptop camera where everyone can see everyone's faces.. boss say do this because to imitate office environment where can see everyone, or call out for meeting to another chatroom.. can only turn off during lunch time.. but i don't really have a problem with it though.. seems like everyone sometimes will disappear from their camera to do house chores and boss didnt mind at all..

But in the end it all really depends on your company arrangement and how the do it lar.. for me so far i like it working here

Most new jobs they won’t advertise as full WFH but what most people will do is once employed you negotiate with the boss once you are confirmed in the new job. You need to gain boss trust first
