Hi folks ,

Got headhunted couple of weeks ago and after 2 iv manage to get offer,

With current global economic etc, is it worth it?

-early 30’s M , family man, 7y exp in current field.
-in MNC (blue team) senior engineer role semi-con field.
-various perks like stock share,6 bonuses, medical including labour.

Offered from outsource company to work with Taiwan M*tek company.
-flat mid 6k SGD with 1 month performance bonus.

Both have good career growth opportunity. So i would say is it worth to sacrifice perks etc from current company for the sake of SGD?

The MNC is your current company? It's really good and appears to be stable. the SGD $6k appears lucrative - is it a lot higher than what you're earning?

If both has similar role and learning opportunities as well as growth, then think about company culture/ communications you'll face. However if this is also not an issue, the other factor to weigh would be:

- what are the pros and cons of the MNC vs the Taiwanese company?
- any challenge you foresee (based on interview/ research/ your understanding or observation during interview) with the Taiwanese company?

Lastly, define your career & personal goal(s) and see which company checks the most boxes as it's different for everyone.

The value earn here vs offered in sg is less not 1:1, but currency exchge wise, sg more than double.

Current role
-responsible on design from scratch till tape out.
-expecting to own couple more design
- back End side of design.

Future role
-moving into front End side of design.
-learning curve going to be steep in early couple of years.
-cons: contract position since no open req yet.

Challenges? Nothing that ive didnt encounter before. Have work with TW owner project remotely, more less the same culture in MNC. Probably New one for me is different geo location.

Career goals
-seek experience as much as i can before settling in as lead/manager around 35 yr old.

Personal goal
-retire before 50 in MY

I guess with learning and experience of front end design, it adds value to your overall portfolio. However noticed that the Taiwan based company is hiring you based on 1yr contract for now. Its less secure as you'll have to see if they will renew your contract after it expires. Hmmm if this doesnt bother you then its all good, I suppose?

Yes experience gain is good, suprisingly they took me in despite i repeatedly mention the new role will be huge learning curve and they willing to train me.Its not really a contract job, more like contigent worker. The employment letter doesnt mention any thing about term, it can be indefinite with anual kpi, increase AL and salary increment, its just cheaper to outsource a worker for the time being when I'm in training/probation mode.

After read around forum and ask around peer, landing a professional job over SG is not easy, especially its MNC where competition is high. So i jump the SG workforce wagon and into the unknown future, striving for the best. Processing EP now.

MNC semi-con. Circumstances different as I was junior engineer supporting production during that time.

Personally I won't consider contract position due to job security and benefit unless the offer very good or come with perks such as overseas job and exposure (SG and front end experience in your case).

If you're moving with your family you need to prepare quite a bit for the rental which around 2-3k SGD monthly for whole house. 6k SGD not much if you're earning 5 digits at MY.

ooo, same field, but i'm in design side.

Yes, me too, but since got clarification with the employer during interviewer, they dont have req for permanent, hence open for contract and can convert anytime once it is available, as usual, during IV, i take employer word with pinch of salt. Either way, i'm in for the front end experience and SG opportunity.

Going solo till convert permanent and see hows their package, and definitely not yet 5 digit in MY.

BTW, mind share in what way your bad exp ? workload? double standard treatment?

Do not afraid of change, no matter 30 or 40.

You still got long way to retire age.
