Former boxer Mickey Rourke is throwing haymakers at Tom Cruise, saying in a new interview that the star of Top Gun: Maverick is “irrelevant.”

Speaking on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Rourke dismissed Top Gun: Maverick‘s gaudy box office take, raking in $1.18 billion globally on the way to becoming the biggest film of the year so far. “That doesn’t mean shit to me,” the 69-year-old actor said. “The guy’s been doing the same effing part for 35 years. I got no respect for that.”

He added, “I don’t care about money or power. I care about — When I when I watch Al Pacino work and Chris Walken, and De Niro’s early work, and Richard Harris’ work, and Ray Winstone’s work, that’s the kind of actor I want to be like. Monty Cliff and Brando back in the day. A lot of guys that tried to stretch as actors”.

When asked if he thought Cruise was “a good actor,” Rourke responded, “I think he’s irrelevant. In my world.”

You can see Rourke show off his range in his films from this year, playing a violent ex-con in The Commando and a violent military officer in Warhunt. In November, he’ll star in Roman Polanski’s The Palace, exact release date TBA.

As for Cruise, up next he’ll star in Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One on July 14th, 2023, while Part Two drops June 28th, 2024.

Mickey Rourke was never A list star but was in quite a lot of movies in the 80’s. I think one of his earlier hits was Year of the Dragon but John Lone overshadowed him in that movies.

Then a lot of people know him in 2 very hgggh films 9 1/2 weeks and Wild Orchid. Any man of culture should check out this 2 movies. 😆 9 1/2 weeks was the more popular one but Wild Orchid is more hgggg!

After watching TV series Reacher, Tom Cruise's Reacher isn't that good anymore.

John Travolta was popular for in the late 70's with Saturday Night Fever which launched the whole disco craze.

Then he got hits like Grease but then suffer a string of flops and was nearly forgotten until Look Who's Talking revived his career in the 90's.

Then he made a few good movies like Pulp Fiction, Face Off, Get Shorty, etc. but again suffer a terrible flop with Battlefield Earth.

The next decade, he was in some notable films but not big box office movies like Face Off.

I think he is now taking a break from movies after his wife passed away in 2020.

I think he is a good actor on his own right although not as "commercial" as Tom Cruise lah. He is those like those free spirit don't give a fak type. Meh he rich oredi can pick and choose which project he wants.

But it does sound a bit sour grapes.

Without doubt Mickey Rourke is a good actor but his choice of films aren't exactly stellar like Robert DeNiro or Meryl Streep.

TV series if developed properly, it can be better than movies.

That was the biggest criticism about the Tom Cruise Reacher movies.

The TV series actor is more like the Reacher in the books.

It is also more difficult to cram everything into a movie while TV series have more time to expand and explain things.

Movies need to be more action packed so that people will pay attention.
