Basically I feel Sony Xperia 1 VI seem quite cool as I am very particular with some requirements:
1. I don't like Punchhole, Notch, etc. Minimum Bezel are ok as long as the screen display 100% of its contents.
2. Dual Front Stereo Speaker is a must
3. 3.5mm Audio Port is a must
4. 6000mah or similar Battery Life
5. OLED with above 90hz and Brightness above 800nit or similar Screen Quality
6. Stock/Clean Android UI
7. At least 6.5 Size Inch screen or above
8. At least 2 new android version update
9. Low hardware failure rate or phone hardware simply died before even have at least 2 years of usage
10. High Performance hardware to ensure all Apps run 100% smoothly and capable to handle game like Pokemon TCG LIVE (Trading Card Game) without issue (able to support Genshin Impact or high performance game is a plus but I don't really play them)

Things I kinda used to:
1. Notification LED on screen
2. Double Tab to Wake Up/Sleep Phone
3. On Screen Fingerprint Scanner
4. Split screen feature
5. Lock screen picture auto change to new picture (setup the pictures folder by myself) everytime I wake up the phone in lock screen to check the Time

Things I want to have:
1. SD card slot as I noticed my ROG Phone 6 is already used up its 80%+ storage space already
2. Better Selfie and Main Camera Quality
3. Better 1st Party Accessories such as Great Design and Quality Phone Case
4. Lighter overall weight after apply temper glass and phone case
5. Better build quality and durability with Good Water & Dust Resistance

I am kinda interested to get the latest Sony Xperia 1 VI too, my 1st Smartphone is Sony Xperia SP, however Sony phone is kinda always feel too overpriced so I have move on to ASUS brand after that. Currently using ROG Phone 6 for 2 years, everything is fine but the Camera is kinda too mediocre also Speaker seem like degraded after Android 14 updates, also battery seem having some degrade as well.

I did Won a ROG Phone 8 Pro at Feb 2024, but because ROG Phone 8 has punchhole, no more dual front speaker, so without second thought I sold the phone and remain my current ROG Phone 6.

I have no experience with Sony Xperia phone like after 10 years, so wonder if Sony Xperia phone is still reliable? As I also aware the phone may cost around RM6k, which is a huge amount that I never spend on phone (I only spent RM3.6k Max on a phone before), I would like to hear some advice from you all, if moving to Sony Xperia 1 VI would really worth it?

Reliability:
I am currently using Xperia Pro-i, the hardware is nice but my wifi is not working anymore after about 2 years 7 months. It's a hardware issue (wifi came back if I smack the phone hard and restart but it wouldn't hold for long), although likely to be fringe cases because no one reported it. Other than that buttons are working well, not flimsy.

Performance:
I am not gaming so I can't comment on that front. But day to day operation browsing YouTube and stuff, it's working well, no slow down, not sluggish, it gets warm but that's Snapdragon 888 issue.

Camera:
Don't believe the hype. The camera is good but it takes work to make it good and it also depends what you want to get out of your camera. If you like the "HDR" look, where both the highlight and shadow shows a lot detail in the JPEG well this is not camera for you. I happen to like more contrasty look, so Xperia is fine for me, even then the JPEG is really not really good. Problem with Xperia is they apply a lot of compression on the their jpeg so details are loss especially for jpeg captured by the telephoto and ultrawide module.

To get the most out of your camera, you need to rely on the RAW, RAW mode is really easy to access because the camera UI allows it to be toggled without going deep in the menu (this is true for Xperia 1 V and prior, not sure for Xperia 1VI), the RAW is relatively ok to work with, but compared to RAW from dedicated camera (I have a lumix LX5), it's a little tougher, takes more adjustment to get to a look that I like.

On video side, if Video Pro is available (again this is something that is not available in Xperia 1 VI from the start), it captures one of the best quality video because you can manually adjust the shutter to reduce jittery movement, the tools in video pro makes it so much fun to capture video, people always comment my video output looks very smooth and that largely has to do with the control i have with shutter speed.

So there you have it, some of the pros and cons of Xperia phone
*
Glad to know the button still fine after 2 years+ for Xperia Phone, because my ROG Phone 6 Power Button have fell off. I think Xperia 1 VI should able to perform very well as my current ROG Phone 6 is a 8Gen+ chip compare to its latest 8 Gen 3 chip.

Camera I usually prefer contrast looking pic too, I would like to start play with Toy Photography or non-moving object from my personal collection such as Nendoroid, Blu-Ray, etc. Also I rarely take picture, usually maybe take some pic for Food, Natural Scenery, maybe some rare group photo selfie with friends. My ROG Phone 6 seem able to do its job without too much concern, but not sure if Xperia 1 VI camera will actually and great upgrade from the ROG Phone 6 camera performance and quality or nt. I don mind play around with RAW and some lightroom mobile apps editing.

I rare take video, but i usually only take video for live performance, usually in a dark environment room concert. My main concern maybe is the sound quality, video quality as long is clear and smooth should be fine.

Did a google, it label with RM6499, previously i remember it won't label with price, even though click in, it is still just Notify Me button, but in the google page this seem like a legit price.

user posted image

RM6499 Price may be official retail price, but possible official sony malaysia store will have discount price, this price is really steep, I was hopping it sell around RM5999 come with:
1. Style Phone Case with Stand
2. WH1000xm5

if RM6499, unless it come with:
1. Style Phone Case with Stand
2. WH1000xm5
3. 30w Sony Charger
4. 2 years warranty

just hope it stay below RM6299 with at least gift of:
1. Style Phone Case with Stand
2. WH1000xm5
3. 30w Sony Charger

2. Clear Case
3. Tempered glass
4. Sony WH-1000XM5
5. Sony Official Style Cover Casing with Stand (If you have do the Registration On Interest Online Survey Form, this item will be ship separately upon purchase)

I have 5% discount on official Sony online store. So I decided to get it there. While Sony store did called me and informed stock ready in store..
*
5% discount are you using ACT5 code? or it is your personal reward discount that only eligible to your account?

ACT5 discount didn't work for me, but I have a 50 ringgit birthday discount voucher. Argh, too late for me.
*
Actually ACT5 discount code work at the beginning of the day around 10pm 9th July? But the next morning it seem like didn't work anymore, I end up just use new member RM30 + RM1.6 (200 reward point) and have the RM31.6 discount.

If ChuanHong did using ACT5 discount code, maybe he's the only one able to apply that discount before Sony realise the loses and Block the code immediately.

For now I just using 24 months 0% interest instalment and sold the Headphone, so my deal would be:

RM6467 - Sony WH-1000XM5 (Selling Price RM1080) = Total Price RM5387 for full package no additional accessories add on, etc needed
1. Xperia 1 VI 256GB Storage 12GB RAM (RM5137?)
2. Clear Case (RM20?)
3. Tempered Glass (RM30?)
4. Sony Official Style Cover Casing with Stand (RM200?)

I just got an email from Sony saying that I can use ACT5 now, after I left the item in the cart, the sent me an email with ACT5 discount. WTF Sony, way to make me piss off for doing early purchase. Haha
*
Even u try apply it, it wont work

based on my experience, it work at the beginning of the day around 10pm 9th July on the 1st Shipment Screen before final check out screen? But the next morning when i proceed to the next Check out screen,

it seem like didn't work anymore, either it is a bug and will never work when u try to check out, or it being block after someone use it and sony found out they losing money. or Sony noticed I placing the discount in Cart and try to stop it immediately before i made the discount purchase.

Maybe wait for TS reply, see how did he get the 5% discount.

The best discount you can do now is only RM31.6 for new member discount or any voucher code that is not being block by Sony for this specific product yet.

im using ACT5.. early bird to checkout & did my payment.. =) cause i did put 1 V in my cart and i received ACT5 quite early.. 8 july.. then 9th july i added 1 VI after announcement.. i also received same email.. that time payment channel didnt open yet.. so payment keep failing..  I received the code after Sony announced at night. But I tried payment on that night but keep failing. Then early morning 7am I proceed again and payment successful and order successful with discount.. i heard in FB page there is 1 ppl check with CS and replied it is something wrong and they removed it.. so i bought at at 61xx.. i saved RM324.95.. luckily i placed my order before 8am working hour.. hahahaha.. they fulfilled my order at 2pm++.. then i check tracking id, parcel pickup this evening.. i believe i will receive it by tmr.. also, have to hide it away from my wife..

im thinking to sell the headset or if no 1099 price, then i potentially use it for myself.. although i still using WH-1000XM3 and WF-1000XM4.. XM5 seem extra for me and i dont want my wife noticed i have bought new phone actually.. LOL.. new headset is too obvious for her
*
yea, ACT5, the 5% discount for Xperia 1 VI is a mistake by Sony, initially I able to get the discount but I didn't proceed the transaction immediately, but since it is not for everyone I glad u are the few or the only lucky one who get this mistake discount from Sony hahahahahahah

The headphone is quite old released on May 2022, so it's value will drop from RM1799 to RM1500 or lower brand new (online got a lot of good discount deal too) and it's demand on the market is kinda low too, now with few others oso getting this Xperia 1 VI deal, i believe market will fill up with the cheap price stock now. I pretty lucky able to secure a buyer for RM1080 immediately (pay me deposit already) even before I have the headphone with me hahahahahaha but i believe i will receive the whole package tmr as well.

Can any new 1VI owner help to check vowifi if this is finally supported? For 1V even enabling it with Shizuka and gms it actually does not work, although it is listed as compatible device for maxis.

Actually why VoWifi is so important? How does it different from normal Call with Mobile Network? is it as long as u using VoWifi with a WIFI connection then you can use ur phone no call to any Network (Telephone Line or Telco Mobile Line) with 100% Free of Charge?

I believe doing Phone Call or Video Call using social media like whatapps, facebook, skype, team, zoom, etc, don need VoWiFi feature at all, they all can just rely on Wifi connection to have the call done without VoWifi feature, am i correct?

Just sold the headphones for rm1000. Anyway, the telephoto lenses are pretty meh, would have been happier if they just gone for fixed prime like 85mm with larger sensor.

However one of the plus point here is definitely the 48mm, it's really good, even better than the 50mm in Xperia pro-i, the compression on this 48mm mode makes the jpeg much more usable.

It is really sad though that 21:9 ratio is gone, almost drop my phone just now when I was using it one handed.
*
Still at outstation, only able reach home by 10pm to setup the phone and stuff.

abit curious if I will feel more comfortable with the xperia 1 vi hold in hand too, 47 gram light than my ROG phone 6, body size is small too.

I don take pic with telephoto at all, the only moment i take telephoto is during uni time take pic of the lecture note on screen? hahahahahaha but I overall camera quality would have noticable improvement from my Rog Phone 6 in both auto and manual mode.

So far the phone come with what preinstall apps? wonder if there alot rubbish pre installed apps that i need to spend time to uninstall them

Anyone have this issue? why the tip screen seem like some being cut off and hidden? 😅😅😅 especially the time and battery % kinda obvious

The only fix is to go to developer mode, Display Cutout setting instead of using Default, choose all others option then will fix it, but weird, why default mode already have some issue?

Yes.. obviously variable aperture zoom not practical as others can compensate the digital zoom crop effects with bigger size of sensor. Sony can't increase much sensor size while periscope lens nature..

2x phone take closer to mimic the same frame as 3.5x [attachmentid=11499065]

3.5x - somewhere closer focus range at 85mm normal mode [attachmentid=11499066]

So far good for daytime only with bright light. Night time, I will recommend to use main camera 2x zoom to digital if really required. As main cam sensor have sharper image
Tempered glass issue as it is black frame . You need to get better tempered glass after this.. all these while I'm using gor tempered glass from Taobao.. Taobao can get full frame transparent tempered glass. Shopee will get something similar with camera hole cutout.. I prefer full frame.. I have ordered 4 PCs from Taobao.. you may do it too. 4pcs + shipping just about RM 60+..
*
OKAY it's the temper glass black frame block a very few pixel there, but since it's a pretty edge area i guess i can just rely on the Display Cutout setting to Fix it I guess , since the temper glass is new and its material seem like quite good, the swiping is quite great.

So far overall feeling is great with the phone, But I immediate missed 3 built in feature from Rog Phone 6:
1. Double Tab to Sleep
2. Lock screen picture auto change to new picture (setup the pictures folder by myself) everytime I wake up the phone in lock screen to check the Time
3. Twins App (Duplicate App for different login)
4. Hide App (Special Gesture to open a Menu with hidden apps u set up, i used it for my banking related apps)

the Upgrade I can immediate feel from Rog Phone 6:
1. Display Quality
- I think the Color in Xperia 1 VI have their own adjustment, color look more punchy, maybe something do with their Bravia Setting

2. Camera
- No Doubt, ROG Phone 6 a gaming phone that don't focus on Camera Quality really lose a significant margin compare to Xperia 1 VI

3. Sound
- Louder and Clear compare ROG Phone 6

For double sleep you can probable enable Side Sense and installed custom app to lock screen and program one of the side sense gesture to launch the app to put your device to sleep. I use tasker for the dim and lock function but other custom app might work too.

As for Twins app function, you can install the app called Island, this will setup the native android work profile so that you can install duplicated apps, you can also freeze the app individually using island in your work profile, have been using that since my Pixel days.

The Sony Center guy told me that it's not a guarantee that they will give out the Sony style case when you registered, it depends on Sony.
*
what do you mean tasker? is it a 3rd Party apps or a built in feature? i don mind having an apps to lock screen, but i abit reluctant to install 3rd party apps for certain specific feature, i hope my phone can be as clean and as 'stock' as possible

gosh, the promotion of free the case sound 'scammy', i hope i would get it becuz the so call premium transparent case is so OILY and like a Fingerprint magnet

Hmm yes no double tap to sleep unless u installed 3rd party home launcher which you could have that.

For display, if u need the best accurate as possible in term color white balance, select Creator mode & custom white balance to D65.. Bravia mode is giving punchy color which I don't really like especially if I'm taking picture..
After register and go Sony rewards portal update your profile address. They will send to you through parcel within 4 weeks.. this is based on Xperia 1 V experience. Same approach. But make sure u didn't register for interests before product start sales in M'sia.. it based on your email. So your email register for products & Sony rewards should be the same as what u register for interests for Xperia 1 VI..

Just wait patiently..
*
D65 look like too Warm to me, but I do curious what others phone will see, later going to take a picture, then send it to my ROG Phone 6, side by side to see the color different on screen.

[UPDATE]
- OK Tested, side by side, same picture and video file capture in xperia, but play in PC LCD screen, Xperia 1 VI and ROG Phone 6, all in full brightness, Xperia 1 VI is set in Standard Display mode.
- PC LCD is quite lousy screen, video and picture look so dim and color are darker. Xperia 1 VI look brighter compare to ROG Phone 6 and but the color not as contrast as my ROG Phone 6, seem like ROG Phone 6 over-contrast the visual on screen, but yet is it still dimmer compare to Xperia 1 VI.
- I feel Xperia 1 VI should display the true to life color, to me ROG Phone 6 over-contrast visual is kinda better visually, but Xperia 1 VI brighter yet still punchy color should be a balanced one. I think if I wan the same Contrast level as my ROG Phone 6 maybe I can go and adjust Xperia 1 VI display setting toward Warmer.

When they send the parcel will they notify you or give any tracking number through email? I mean if suddenly an unknown call say I got parcel I might have false alarm as there are a lot scam.

It's a bit confusing, because i receive a email mentioned as long as you register the product and update profile address u will receive it as well without ever mentioned about the "register for interest" matters, but I did register interested before the sale started.

Tasker is an app that allows you program your phone to do a lot automation and stuff, I used it extensively to achieve multiple things, like disable my VPN when in the car to allow wireless android auto, etc.

But if you really want to just lock your screen, it would recommend you to just find one of the few thousands of app in Play store that can do that. I was using this at some point of time https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?...roid.screenlock, just install this then enable to Side Sense and program one of the gesture to launch this app like this

[attachmentid=11499165]
*
I end up go for Screen Lock EX (RM3.99), a very clean apps without ads, free version of it, after u lock screen ur touch on fingerprint reader to unlock phone won't work, u have to use password, but paid ver will resolve that.

I like the side bar menu feature too, ROG Phone 6 also have it, but ROG Phone 6 is like globally available at all time, Xperia ver seem like when you open game it wont work anymore but for game xperia game enhancer is kinda have same feature as the side bar menu. Quite satisfy with the alternative solution instead of double tab, I put the apps in home bottom screen, basically instead of double tab now i just need tab once to lock screen.

Also, the game enhancer add apps to let the apps run Bypass charging mode also kinda more limited (even though game can be added, but other apps is very limited) compare to Rog Phone 6, Rog Phone 6 can add fb, youtube, sportify, almost most apps but still have some apps being hidden too but overall more option than xperia, even though it's not really a feature i often use aside from game, but it kinda a software downgrade.

Day 2 of using Xperia after 10 years, what I like about it compare to Rog Phone 6:
1. Side Fingerprint is more comfortable, Reader is more accurate and fast than Rog Phone 6.
2. Screen Color looks better.
3. Lightweight, Smaller Size and Comfort to hold compare to Rog Phone 6
4. Software and UI too clean, basically 95% stock android, UI Home fit more App and Folder 5 x 8 Grid (Xperia) vs 5 x 7 Grid (ROG Phone)
5. Camera just take way better picture compare to Rog Phone 6 (Macro,Zoom, Wide, Portrait, Video, Selfie, Everything, bonus Mic Record Sound Better too)
6. Side bar menu have 3 option instead of 1 compare to Rog Phone 6
7. SD Card Slot for offline and better Music File also for picture storage purpose, as Rog Phone 6 don have it
8. Device is Cooler and Smoother on Game (Pokemon TCG Live only Tested since it's the only game i play now)

Things I feel downgraded abit:
1. Bycharging charging feature is Limited
2. Global Equalizer is Missing
3. UI not 100% smooth due to LTPO and Android 14 Issue (heard it will fix in Android 15)
4. Built-in Duplicate Apps Feature is missing
5. Special Gesture to open a Hidden Apps Menu is Missing (customizable)

Overall, I guess move on from 2 years old tech Rog Phone 6 phone will definitely feel better, glad move back to Xperia after 10 years. Now I just hope to get the Xperia 1 VI Style Case with Stand, the Transparent case is really too oily on touch and make the whole phone feel cheap and uncomfortable to hold.

Have some werid experience, whenever u open camera in Xperia 1 VI you will hear a voice at the back, like a clicking sound,

i think maybe it is normal some mechanism at the camera hardware is opened up or wat, but if u hold the phone tightly and shake hard abit the phone willing keep having that clicking sound

wonder if you guys also having the same behavior in ur xperia 1 vi?

wont so obvious unless u really pay attention to it.. it is OIS mechanism working after camera apps is opened..

if u go try Xiaomi 14 Ultra/Vivo X100 Pro demo unit if got chance, even change lens also hv the sounds.. and the sounds will be recorded in video recording..

It's the telephoto assembly, there are mechanical moving parts that allow the lenses to move to change the focal length. Just turn around the phone and look at the telephoto assembly, you can see the lens moves to position when you click the shutter button to turn on the camera. This is perfectly normal.

Because just now i doing something like TnG promo like u need to shake ur phone to reveal the voucher, but when shaking the phone keep heard the noise, i guess this phone is not for playing anything that required u to keep constantly shaking the phone such as Game or those shaking phone to get coin/voucher thingy?

by right constantly shaking the phone like forcing the camera mechanical part moving will cause damage right?

Also I am curious, this phone is allowed 2 Sim, but actually is it after u placing a Micro SD Card, then this phone cant have space for 2nd Sim Card already?
