My latest painting, title "The iban healer"

Medium: oil on canvas
Size: 18" x 24"

Attached Image

I saw the original photo from an airline magazine many many years ago so I made note to one day paint this photo. Then came covid pandemic and I kept thinking about this photo I bookmarked somewhere (I searched for the online photo). My brain kept bugging me about the subject (covid -> hospital -> doctor -> healer) so finally I decided to paint it to get it out of my mind.

Took me 10 sessions to finish it, 1 session around 4 hours. Ayam a slow painter and malas, so I finished it in 6 months lol.

When I presented this painting to my painting teacher, she told me "Eh Billy, you should start painting difficult paintings, this one is easy", walaowehhh! In a way she indirectly told me ayam capable of painting lagi difficult painting, so okay lah.

Painting in progress:

Note: Photo was taken using a phone camera, original painting the colours are different. IMHO phone camera memang tak boleh harap to take a photo of oil painting.

My painting is RM2 per square inch for an oil painting, student rate. All I paint boleh beli, but please note that since I paint from online photos from the internet, so in reality the paintings are not 100% mine lor since I never asked for the permissions to paint the photos.

My teacher asked us (the painting students) to paint many paintings and later sama sama open an painting salaes exhibition. But susah lor since ayam a slow painter.

oil painting isnt easy yo, i tried to replicate bob ross by going to art shop buy all the painting tools, failed miserably.

Please frame up your art work, its really beautiful! looking forward for more art from you.

Also, is your boyfriend into painting too?
*
Oil painting needs to learn basic first. Deswai I joined an oil painting class from a teacher. Once you learned how to use it, it is a smooth sailing (of course it is still the most difficult to paint compared to other medium)

BF can paint too, but he malu to paint and shows it to others.

Can share the class name and location? I might be interested to try again

Would love to meet you and our bf 1 day 😁 you guys sound so sweet going painting class together

If you can converse in Mandarin then you can attend the painting class -- the teacher is a prof from China, now a professional painter in malaysia. She can speak mandarin only (with dong bei accent), cantonese cannot, english cannot, malay lagilah cannot talk. PM me if you are interested.

My BF didn't join the class. He cannot understand mandarin lol.

Isopropyl alcohol is rubbing alcohol right? I experimented with it once to blend coloured pencils following Sarah Clark video. Results was good the colours dispersed evently but just like she said in the video it's harder to control especially for small intricate parts of the drawing. Aiyoo 😅🤣.

*
Yes the rubbing alcohol.

Curious, why don't use water to blend colours?

Nice work!

I always wanted to learn to paint. Real painting like you did not throwing some shit on canvas and call it abstract painting.

Do you think learning from youtube is possible?
*
It is possible but it will be a very slow process since nobody is guiding you.

If you don't have a teacher, it is better if you can find friends with the same interests to paint together gether. Friends can motivate and give critiques.

And a teacher can guide you and push you to be better faster.p

I learned painting with a teacher almost 10 years ago. After 1 year of informal classes I stopped attending the class - at that point I was sufficient to paint on my own.

But after that I found painting alone was not that fun, and due to lack of motivation I hardly painted then.

Then this year I heard my teacher started a class after MCO bukak. So I contacted her to join her class. She said for what since I could already paint. So I told her my reasons, and I actually improved a lot after I attended her classes again. She is good with critiques and suggestions to improve a painting.

why u no paint on computer ???.. cheaper,.. and easier to stall or continue working,... no need prep,.. no need cleaning,..

The feel of the painting process is different punya.
And of course the painting results are also different.

But if course you are right about being easier and cheaper to paint digitally
