imho, having a master's degree doesnt guarantee you career progression nor does it assure you higher compensation.

I have worked in MNCs with people in very senior positions that dont have any Masters.

It is a differentiator vs your competition when the opportunity arises. Good to have but not essential.

Experience and skill are similar to body and face of a woman while master is the accessories. If muka pecah how great the accessories also no use.

Got masters... not that useful unless your are working in the academia.

One of the main reasons - there are a lot of graduates without any prior working experience that holds a Masters from their own uni. The route > degree + masters seems to be... a very famous package nowadays.

Don't take full time degree, experience always come first. Take part time master course. I am in engineering field, finished my part time master while working. Don't think about salary as the main reason you take master, think about what you can learn, and how it will help your career. Eventually, you will get paid for your knowledge. I finished my part time master last year, at the age of 25 i got 3 years working experience and a master degree, from what I can observe, my pay is above average as compared to my degree course mates and degree.

Very terrible ROI.
there is no job that has a requirement of MASTERS DEGREE ONLY APPLY.

Which basically means that job can be done by a degree holder but why should I pay you extra for your irrelevant master degree.

I can say after I completed my MBA, it opened up a lot of career opportunities for me. My salary already tripled within 8 years after graduation.

The key is how you market your knowledge and qualification, and obviously experience.

Certain companies do pay more for master or phd degrees. For your information, I do know that big MNC was willing to pay fresh master graduate an extra salary of up to RM 500 (RM 1000 for phD). It very much depends on which company you apply to.

However, I agree with most of the people here, it is good to have but not essential. Do a master degree if you are really really interested in gaining extra knowledge, the ROI for postgraduate studies in Malaysia is generally not great.

More chances to get job in academic since to teach for bachelor degree, you need at least Master degree.

To be a professional you need only a Bachelor degree. Does having Master the starting salary is higher than a Bachelor degree with one year experience? Usually companies give priority to Bachelor degree holders than Master

Worthwhile if pursuing career in academia.

For others especially in private sector, not so much.

If you look at job ads on LinkedIn, many do say "Masters preferred", though. Advice to TS, search for your 'dream job', see what's the requirements and work from there

Yes agreed, work experience in that position that the company is looking to fill is definitely given priority.

a paper qualification makes you stand out among the competitors. Offer value wise is still up to your experience and how much the hirer value you. I wont say it may not help you completely, because i believe it give you an extra edge definitely.

If a company want good ROI... no point hiring degree holder also...

technically speaking... hiring a SPM leaver who rank on file would be the best ROI isn't it??? Got hands on experience from ground up...

This is usually the mindset of SME and smaller companies....

Large MNC or reputable company don't look at how academic qualification could contribute in a direct manner but how it could contribute to the company indirectly.... for example... reputation and prestige.... when you deal with big clients... you will know why a masters is important... particularly oversea's master..... MSc (UK) ... MBA (AUS)... MA (US)....
