hi I just checked the previous month of telco itemize billing, and found out that there is unknown SMS that auto sent to 66668 and charge me 15 sen each.
I never use any SMS to send msg since there is charge & nowadays everyone also using Whatsapp.

Found out that in Feb bill 19 Jan (1 day after Thaipusam) & May bill 20 Apr (1 day after Nuzul al-Quran) both day there is a msg auto sent to 66668 number.
Has walked in to check with Umobile center and the service agent has no idea what's the SMS that sending to 66668.

Appreciate if any expert here know about what is this 66668 number about....

if you are using Android, it's likely Google Messages Chat activation

from Google FAQ:

When using chat features, your messages are sent over Wi-Fi and mobile data. As long as you're connected to a Wi-Fi network that you don't have to pay to use, there should be no cost to send and receive messages. If your messages are sent using mobile data, the cost is based on your mobile data plan.

Google may occasionally verify your phone number via SMS to offer chat features (SMS charges may apply).

oneplus 7, been 2+ years using this phone, never have record showing sending msg to 66668 number
no download / install any apk, all apps from google play

do more google search and get this ..

Same goes to me. Being charge rm0.09 for received message from that no. I'm also use oneplus but 7pro model. Already block that no. Im using YES

Went to UMobile CS center and asked for open complaint report, the CS over the counter also no idea where the message sent out and what is the purpose.
Wait for almost one month over then just received call from UMobile CS.
they have waived the two SMS charges and blocked 66668 to send me any message.

may i know do u suffer any other losses (like credit card, bank balance....touch wood) despite this RM0.15 each SMS charges?

coz i juz found out from my u mobile bill there is a SMS charges from this number but i never sent/received any msg from this 66668.

as i did not tie up credit card to any platform, so nothing loss other than the rm0.15 sms fee.
Feb, May, July also received such sms. I think already 3 sms from 66668.
logged report to umobile center and they refunded the money since they cannot track where this number from, also the source of sms.
they also promised to block this 66668 sender to send any msg to me.

if can go their official center physically much more better, they maybe will ask for phone checking about the 66668 sms then open report for you.

Google try hard to push Google RCS chat messaging service

yes, it can be switched off

though if you use dual sim and switch the sim using data frequently, it may get reset and try number verification

not a telco problem as far as I know

How to disable it? If i turn off that on my samsung phone, it will randomly pop up verify my phone number every few day
If i turn on never suddenly pop up

maybe can try another messaging app

then uninstall or disable Google Messages
