For the past year or so, I've noticed that Eveready batteries don't last as long as they used to.

Anyone else has the same experience?

They are what the supermarkets I go to have on display. So, that's what I picked, for convenience.

But it so happens that I've just got some DIY batteries. Let see how that goes.

Now, there is an issue with rechargeable batteries.

Non-rechargeable batteries are 1.5 volt.

Re-chargeable batteries are 1.2 volt.

Not all devices can run on rechargeable batteries.

Akaline battery = legendary for ruining devices by leaking.

Get energizer lithium instead or eneloop rechargeable.

Yes, the voltage is a problem.

If you google, some would say it's not a problem because the "power delivery" is the same regardless of voltage.

In practice, some devices work with rechargeable, and some just don't.

not so simple, rechargeable 1.2v only, non-rechargeable 1.5v, some device that sensitive to voltage will assume you low on power and cant operate normally, ie my old sony camera, the flash will take like 2-3 seconds to charge if use 1.5v alkaline batteries, but if use the expensive eneloop batteries, will take at least double the charging time, sometimes even triple.

or some remote control the brightness of the display(black text), almost cant visible when voltage low.

i hope those eneloop do have 1.5v version.

yes

Battery life reduces at higher temperatures

Even though battery capacity at high temperatures is higher, battery life is shortened. Battery capacity is reduced by 50% at -22 degrees F – but battery LIFE increases by about 60%. Battery life is reduced at higher temperaturesfor every 15 degrees F over 77, battery life is cut in half.

I only use two brands
Duracell and Energizer

I never use cheaper ones especially those non branded ones. Leaking and then fuck up your device.

The only pro of dry cells is they're light on weight.

eveready is carbon zinc battery, if u use it on high powered devices like flashlights, then it will wear very very fast, use alkaline batteries instead, and they are not expensive, you dont have to use energizer alkaline batteries, there are many cheap alkaline batteries sold in MR DIY, daiso, etc

I have pried open a lot of different batteries when i was in school.

Heavier batteries usually last longer because they are usually alkaline batteries.
Carbon zinc batteries are very light.

So, cheap alkaline batteries can last longer than some expensive carbon zinc ( like eveready), although generally, on average, alkaline batteries are more expensive.

( for some reasons, i was collecting the carbon rods from zinc carbon batt. Secret project icon_idea.gif )

For battery leaking problem,
the liquid inside the alkaline battery is corrosive. If cheap and thin materials are used, then it will just eat the layer.

Other than the voltage, the rechargeable battery capacities is far less than the normal battery. I have yet to see any rechargeable battery that last longer between charge compare to normal battery.

If not using the remote, just need to remove from compartment. The leak usually at the end of battery life. SO, just change after fixed time but it is hard thing to do because you don't remember. I have remote got corroded or LCD destroyed because of this myself laugh.gif doh.gif

use Rechargable batteries. IKEA Ladda best value for money, comparable to Eneloop. I’ve been using Rechargable from Ladda, Eneloop, Enegizer and PowerRex. Remember to use high-drain battery for things like camera or remote cars.
For charging you can invest in a good charger, something you could recondition, cycle and slow/fast charge the battery. I have the PowerRex MH-C9000PRO.
