You are gravely wrong about this. The lady would have exhausted her options and resulting twitter post out of frustration, i know because i was once in the exact situation some years ago. Being a fresh grad coming out of a uni where all races lived, studied and had fun together, suddenly being told to get lost because you and i are not same anymore. Yes reality is harsh and i learned it the hard way.

I am grateful though i have had really nice chinese landlords (quite literally 1 in 20 ?) who looked past race and wanted some form of security (i.e. higher deposits, proof of employment < this is fair IMHO)

Like i said, once would never understand the prejudice and profiling that minorities go through. Being denied a place to stay is completely not the same as being denied other things such as jobs/positions/investments.

Discrimination is discrimination, but some discrimination is worse than others.

deposit can be refund if no damage,.. how is higher deposit not fair ??... if tenants got few airconds,.. i will ask for 1 month utility deposit instead of 1/2 month,... is that discrimination ???... for commercial some owner even ask for higher deposits if the tenant doing some higher risk business,..

higher risk,.. higher deposit,.. not that he rejecting outright,.. he's giving him chance for rental with no disadvantage for tenant but more security to the owner,.. deposit is full refundable,..he's giving chance to the tenants ,...  how izit discrimination ??

rental to doctor vs rental to retail cashier,.. is that a discrimination ??... which one higher risk ??

I think what he meant for the benefit of doubt, he is willing to double down his deposits, macam giving character security bond la.

In a way, he is telling the landlord, i carry himself high (different from what you may perceived me off) , over the roof in principle of honoring the tenancy A-Z thus no worries on my part in securing the return of the 2 months deposits paid by me to you (landlord). I am different from the trails.
