Not necessarily, while sure the metabolic rate decreases very slightly, but the main culprit is inactivity.
As people get older, 35+ you tend to have the mentality of, wah old already cannot do this this that that, and it slowly turns you into an inmobile, inactive fat old lump who would have trouble even walking up stairs in a mall.
So the end result is, your eating habit is like what you’ve been doing for the past 10 yrs(not going into healthy eating, whole big topic there), but your energy expenditure is becoming lesser and lesser.
The human body is not designed to be inactive.
You don't stop exercising because you’re older. You grow old because you’ve stopped exercising.
