I just moved up to Penang for work and realize how messed up the traffic in Penang around Bayan Lepas area, can cause 1 hour jam for a short distance of 10km, despite leaving home around 6.45am...
Too many traffic lights and illogical right lanes, somemore high volume motor flow...

Haven't included those drivers who doesn't give signal in Penang

The most illogical part is how and why they wanted to implement traffic lights in a round about which is causing a major jam for those wanted to make a U Turn...





Anyone got any recommendation on where else to stay

Semua Salah LGE bad urban planning.

Oh ya, haven't get me started on the giant square longkangs in middle of the some roads
They Increase the Tar Road thickness, but don't bother to lift the longkang lid up, making a giant dangerous dent there...



From what I observed :



(A) 10km Route - Just need to escape Sg Ara Deadlock/Rush hour
[1] SK Seri Relau Traffic Light
[2] SJKC Min Sin / Persairan Bukit Jambul Traffic Light
[3] Bukit Jambul Mall before Petron Traffic Light
[4] Bukit Jambul Mall Pedestrian Crossing Traffic Light
[5] Roundabout Traffic Light
[6] Smooth route to Office normally all Green Light until Motorola


(B) 8.2 km Airport Route - Too many schools and high volume motorcycle traffic.
[1] Lintang Sg Ara 11
[2] Persairan Relau Traffic Light
[3] SK Sg Ara Traffic Light
[4] Mosque Traffic Light Turn Left - *ignores Traffic Light*
[5] Jalan Bayan route to Giant Traffic Light 1
[6] Jalan Bayan route to Giant Traffic Light 2 - Pantai Hospital
[7] Jalan Bayan route to Giant Traffic Light 3 - McDonalds
[8] Jalan Bayan route to Giant Traffic Light 3 - Eng Hardware Engineering -- Heavy Traffic with shits tons of Motorcycle here
[9] Dangerous sharp 45 degree turn need to avoid motor
[10] ASE Electronics (Questionable one way / two way route if no JPJ jaga road)
[11] Smooth transitions to office.

KL also same lah jam everywhere during rush hour

People say don come penang but you no heed people advise.

Well mungkin I live nearby KL-Seremban highway as a kid, always had a perception that 10km route 20 mins can reach.

I rather stay in Ipoh than Penang TQ.

Welp, most likely will move back down to KL after sometime. I kennot deal with this jam wasting 2 hours of my life everyday.

Use different route but it will be further, or leave office earlier/later.

That is a good idea. KL also very nice.

A few options before you go back to KL.
1) Maybe have dinner / finish up some work and only go back after peak hours, it will be much easier. Many people staying over on the mainland do this.
2) Maybe try to learn how to ride a bike. Will save you at least an hour each day.

so far found 2 routes.
Either go via Airport route. 8km but shit tons if motor and traffic light.
Else the route can see the Sea view the 10km route, lesser motor.

Or i move to Pantai Jerjak / Summerton area. I stayed at OYO B Hotel before took me 10 mins to reach office.

or i leave home before 6.30am see whether can reach office. Provided if my stomach doesnt sakit perut on the way to office. 😂

Lol, I used to live in Sg Ara when I was working in Bayan Lepas about a decade ago. That 8km would take me 30 mins and I was like FTS. Moved back to PJ for good after doing a year there

lol welcome to Penang. Once you learn the peak hour timings you can shave 10-15 min off your commute. 645 is too late for you depending on where you stay

JKR did exactly this thing in sabah
after a while, nobody follow the traffic lights anymore because it creates unnecessary jam at the roundabout instead of letting it free flow

through out my driving, motors never a problem.
steady driving path is the key....

Leave after 8.30am no jam last time. But that over 10 years ago.
