Celcom finally enables Voice over WiFi but only 9 smartphones are supported

After enabling Voice over LTE (VoLTE) two years ago, Celcom has finally enabled Voice over WiFi (VoWiFi) which is also known as WiFi Calling. With this feature, you can still make and receive high-quality voice calls over WiFi even if your smartphone has zero or poor mobile reception.

Similar to VoLTE, VoWiFi offers crystal clear HD calls and you can enjoy improved quality regardless of your mobile coverage. Just make sure you have VoWiFi enabled and you’re connected to a stable WiFi connection of at least 25kbps.

According to Celcom’s compatible device list, there are only 9 supported devices for VoWiFi. This includes the Vivo X80 and X80 Pro, Huawei Mate 20 series, Huawei P30 series, Huawei Nova 5T and the Nokia X20. Unfortunately, none of the Samsung and Apple models can support VoWiFi on Celcom at the time of writing.

To use VoWiFi, you need to activate VoLTE first and make sure that you’re using a USIM (64K). If you’re using one of the 9 supported phones, you can enable WiFi calling in the settings. Just go to settings and search for “WiFi Calling”. Once WiFi Calling is enabled, you should see an icon that indicates VoWiFi. There are no extra charges for using VoWiFi and you will be charged based on the same voice call rates as your Celcom mobile plan.

Besides voice calls, you can also send and receive SMS via WiFi with the VoWiFi feature. Interestingly, the FAQ states that VoWiFi does not work while roaming as the service is not available. For more info, you can check out Celcom’s VoLTE and VoWiFi page.

Axiata should stop promoting Who-R-We as they edy dead... Wasting time engaging pre- and post-sales activities on Who-R-We as the volume is getting close to zero day-by-day...

Focus on volume of devices sold in the United States of Malaysia and Axiata can keep their loyal customers happy...

Me was used to be more than 10 years Axiata customers... but, their innovations is not as "attractive" as other telcos... no matter how many times they change their CEOs, they failed to catch me back... don't give up Mr. Axiata, someday me will cum back to u (if me is the President of the United States of Malaysia)....

Maxis also not working while roaming

They implements a Geo IP check what IP you used to connect to their VoWIFI

The VoWiFi is secured by a IPSec VPN.

old minded celcom, they used to think even in jungle also they have coverage and have that thought even in 2022 without any serious attention to catch up with latest innovation. Funny when others already running, Celcom's volte and vowifi as equal as a toddler learning to stand.

Took them decades to launch something this basic, and if it wasn't because of Jendela, I doubt they would even have VoLTE by now.

Imagine if they're not forced to sign with DNB, how long would it take them to deploy their own 5G lol.

All these capitalists only know how to suck our money like vampire until they meet someone whom is beyond their control then only start to buckle up with hestitance.

this is the main reason i stick with digi.

when roaming, i just pick a network that does not have roaming agreement with digi. it will automatically go no service.

my digi is esim on iphone, so second sim i use local sim card with data and mobile data switching turned on

digi automatically will switch to wifi call and can use without worrying it call accidentally went to cellular

love it so much

perfect for me to call back family when studying in the uk

For few new device only?
What about older previous device that are still in use. Lots more volte/vowifi capable device are not supported by celcom currently.
Really half baked efforts aka wayang only.

Celcom users using iPhones will have VoWiFi once iOS 15.6 is out. Currently on testing phase and available for those who signed up for Apple Software Development Program (Beta testers).
