QUOTE Budget 2023: No more middlemen in defence procurements, says PM ![]() KUALA LUMPUR: The government aims to cut out the involvement of middlemen in defence procurements and will deal directly with foreign governments in such deals. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the debacle over the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) issue cannot be repeated. "The safety of the country has to be preserved to ensure peace and harmony. Weaknesses in procurement practices have affected the country's defence readiness. "The procurement of the LCS cost more than RM6 billion, yet not even one vessel has been completed. More News "Such incidences cannot be repeated. From now, we need to eliminate the involvement of middlemen and deal with (foreign) governments directly (in procurement matters)," he said while tabling the 2023 Budget in the Dewan Rakyat today. Anwar announced an allocation of RM18.5 million for the Home Ministry and RM17.7 billion for the Defence Ministry for 2023. He said the bulk of the allocation, namely RM4.1 billion, would go towards the maintenance and purchase of armed forces assets to increase the nation's level of readiness. NST imho, even better if all futures procurement; all will be build and finished by the supplier, no longer use local companies for assembly and TOT deal nonsense, but it's a good start HangPC2 liked this post

QUOTE(darth5zaft @ Feb 24 2023, 07:03 PM) Been there done that. While it sounds great in some people mind, in reality . Purchasing stuff directly overseas with foreign currencies without NO socioeconomic contribution to the local community & industry is extremely unattractive. Oh don't get me wrong, I do understand local partnership/TOT will bring more socioeconomic benefits for the nation in the long run. It would just lead the gov to either buy less that what MAF required like the Caracas or not buy anything at all. but it's just that 'bad deals' after 'bad deals' that we keep getting (Boustead, Perimekar, etc) over these years, personally I think the local defense companies need some 'punishments', you get me? like; no more gov deals with any local defense companies for maybe next 5-10 years, a temporary ban on them until they could regain the trust & they get their shit together. |

QUOTE(James831 @ Apr 25 2023, 04:23 PM) Navy Wants To Sell-Off Six Nearly New Littoral Combat Ships nah, US's trimaran LCS is just another ill, cursed, leaky, problematic ship project next to INS Vikrant & our own LCS program. not worth it.maybe RMN should have a look at it rather than continue with the MAHARAJA LELA LCS? right now dunno how many if any at all of Maharaja Lela LCS will be complete and enter service, the US Navy LCS all is less than 10 years old, maybe can be use as a stopgap . Freedom-class littoral combat ship. Independence-class littoral combat ship QUOTE(ayanami_tard @ Apr 25 2023, 09:59 PM) looks kinda cute for some reason |

if Bumar Labedy going to discontinue it, not sure if Mindef could negotiate with them to continue supply parts for few more years. I hope they don't go drastic as to actually buy from them the blueprints & stuff just so we could have Deftech manufacture it locally, the costs not gonna be worth it imho.
some parts maybe interchangeable with T72? not sure on that, if so then probably can source from elsewhere. army would eventually have to look at getting another new tanks instead. T72 design belong in a museum. |

QUOTE(atreyuangel @ Aug 29 2024, 09:48 PM) anyone see the movie? btw since I got to read the report on the 1313 skirmish I can say that the battle with the late ASP Mamat and his team is almost 80% accurate and the Simunul ambush is also almost the same especially on what they did to Arwah Koperal Azrul and I think is Arwah Aziz |

QUOTE(Justin.Loong @ Oct 7 2024, 10:43 AM) Malaysia is inching closer towards acquiring Kuwaiti F/A-18 fighter jets to beef up the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF). guess by now, it's pretty much confirm deal already. great! The New Straits Times understands details of the procurement are expected to be on the cards during Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin's visit to Kuwait that began yesterday. This is among matters expected to be discussed during Khaled's courtesy call on Kuwait First Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah. Sheikh Fahad is also defence minister and interior minister. Khaled is also set to have an audience with Kuwait Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. The Kuwait Air Force has 39 F/A-18C and F/A-18D Hornet jets, comprising single-seat and two-seat fighter jets. Reports about the possible procurement emerged in June when a technical team from the RMAF visited Kuwait to discuss it. The procurement was also discussed after Kuwaiti ambassador to Malaysia Rashed Mohammad Al-Saleh visited the Defence Ministry the following month. In August, Khaled said Malay-sia was working with Kuwait about the procurement. He said Malaysia was waiting for Kuwait's response, adding that from a technical standpoint, the Hornet fighter jets were suitable for RMAF's needs. He said Kuwait's F/A-18C and F/A-18D Hornets had lower operational hours than the RMAF's existing Hornets. Malaysia has eight F/A-18D Hornets and 18 Sukhoi Su-30MKMs in its Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MRCA) fleet. ![]() RMAF recently purchased 18 South Korean-made FA-50Ms to replace the RMAF's fleet of BAE Hawk 208/108 light fighters and lead-in fighter trainers. The FA-50M aircraft are expected to be delivered in 2026. This left a gap in the MRCA fleet after the retirement of 16 Russian-made Mikoyan MiG-29N Fulcrums seven years ago. Plans to replace the MiG-29Ns, optimised for their air defence role, were reportedly put on hold due to budgetary constraints. The RMAF began its MRCA acquisition programme in 2011, with a planned entry of service date between 2015 and 2016. While it was initially reported that the RMAF was seeking to procure 18 aircraft, this rose to 24 to 40 new aircraft in 2014. Experts believe acquiring the F/A-18C and F/A-18D Hornets would improve the RMAF's capabilities, particularly in the South China Sea, where greater militarisation is taking place.
