The 3rd and final batch of 18 units Rafale for the Indonesian Air Force to come into force by end of this year.

42 Indonesian Rafale in notebook

In Indonesia, after having succeeded in confirming the second tranche of the Rafale contract in August, Dassault Aviation should logically receive the final installment for the implementation of the third tranche despite the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed at the end of August between the Indonesian administration and Boeing for the purchase of 24 F-15IDNs. Jakarta was careful not to sign an LOA (letter of offer and acceptance) with Washington which would have been binding for Jakarta. On the other hand, Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto has already obtained funding to put the remaining 18 Rafales into force by the end of 2023. He has also finalized the purchase of 12 Mirage 2000-5s from Qatar.

In the short term, export sales of the Rafale will exceed those of the Mirage 2000 (286 aircraft sold). To date, Dassault Aviation and France have firmly sold 267 Rafale, including 24 used (55 in Egypt, 36 in Qatar, 36 in India, 24 in Greece, including 12 used, 80 in the United Arab Emirates , 12 used to Croatia and 24 to Indonesia). By adding the 18 Rafale in Indonesia and the 26 Rafale Marine in India, the French combat aircraft will have sold 311 units. Much more than the Swedish Gripen (102 examples) and the Typhoon from the Eurofighter consortium (151), or even the Boeing Super Hornet (48). And Dassault Aviation still has several serious prospects in Colombia, Serbia, Iraq, Qatar and Egypt. The only downside is that the aircraft manufacturer does not have the human resources (sales, legal, etc.) to carry out several export campaigns in parallel.

Looks like Fincantieri is offering the U212 NFS for the Indonesian Navy submarine program and is confident the U212 NFS will be Indonesian Navy next submarine. Will see.

According to rumors collected by Startmag, two multi-purpose offshore patrol vessels (PPA) produced by #Fincantieri and destined for the Navy could be sold to Indonesia or Malaysia. They would be the first PPA units sold abroad.

Defense Minister Prabowo's breakthrough to strengthen the Indonesian Navy, Procurement of the SRVS Submarine Rescue System from the UK

Sunday, September 10 2023

user posted image

Jakarta – Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto has made another breakthrough in order to strengthen the TNI's defense equipment. This time it is the turn of the Indonesian Navy to get new defense equipment in the form of the Submarine Rescue Vehicle System (SRVS), namely a submarine whose function is to evacuate the crew of a sunken submarine. On September 1 2023, the Indonesian Ministry of Defense and PT BTI Indo Tekno signed the SRVS procurement contract. This important agreement includes the provision of a technologically advanced SRV-F Mk.3 rescue submarine as well as a special Mothership designed to support emergency submarine rescue missions.

Submarines are strategic defense equipment that have an important role for navies throughout the world, including Indonesia. The Indonesian Navy, with the Submarine Operations Command (Koopkasel) as the operator of the submarine fleet in Indonesia, will soon be equipped with submarine operational support equipment in the form of SRVS.

SRV-F Mk.3 is a modern rescue submarine made by SMP England, which carries the concept of "One Out, All Out." With this concept, the SRV-F Mk.3 is designed to be able to save the entire submarine crew in just one trip. This is possible because the capacity of the SRV-F Mk.3 includes 50 passengers and 3 crew to operate it, the best in its class. The SRV-F Mk.3 also has a “hybrid” design, allowing it to be carried on motherships, aircraft, and land transport, giving it a major advantage over other systems.

RSAF's version is the F16V+ or Blk 70+ standard as RSAF has added other locally designed and lsraeli equipment.

I wont be surprised if RSAF calls it the F16SG -currently it seems to go with the moniker of upgraded F16s.

With the upgrade of RSAF's F16s, SG's air force consists only of 4.5 Generation combat jets (F15SG is also 4.5 Generation). Come 2026, RSAF will operate both 5th Generation i.e. F35 and 4.5 Generation combat jets.

The current order is 24 Rafales bought using loans:

https://www.janes.com/defence-news/news-det...s-order-backlog

It remains to be seen if this report is true as it is clearly an effort to get loans.

On the F15s, Ive mentioned that it is an MOU and not sale. It is a measure to 1) keep hope on getting the plane alive or 2) face saving PR for Probowo. There isnt money for this. And the US side is strict on the financing e.g. even if there are loans, it must be from legit sources.

It looks like Indo is out of the KF 21 program:

UAE buys Indonesia’s share and becomes part of the KF-21 program
By Boyko Nikolov On Sep 15, 2023

The United Arab Emirates [UAE] is moving towards increasing the combat capabilities of its air force. Sources say the UAE is becoming part of South Korea’s KF-21 Boramae fifth-generation stealth fighter program.

According to @mason_8718 on Twitter, the UAE will pay Indonesia’s share. BulgarianMilitary.com recalls that Indonesia was initially part of the South Korean KF-21 program.

In October 2022, it was confirmed that Jakarta had already paid US$6 million in outstanding KF-21 program debt. The Indonesian government has promised Seoul that another US$33 million will be transferred in 2023.

Promising steps from Jakarta, although what has been paid and promised is less than the 10 percent that Jakarta has to invest as a partner in the program. Nearly 561 million dollars is the participation of Indonesia in the joint project with South Korea.

Strategic partnership
Serial production of the KF-21 is expected to begin next year. The UAE hopes to acquire a quantity of this stealth combat aircraft in the coming years, although there is no word yet on how many the Middle Eastern kingdom will want.

However, Abu Dhabi is familiar with some of the South Korean weapons technology. In recent years, the UAE has acquired advanced Korean weapons such as the M-SAM Block-II interceptor and the Chunmoo, etc. Also, Seoul and Abu Dhabi are working on joint projects at the moment. It is this good relationship that is part of the reason why Seoul agreed to accept Abu Dhabi into the program.

It is noteworthy, as BulgarianMilitary.com remembers, that a pivotal moment occurred at the summit in 2023. The nations of South Korea and the UAE ratified their commitment to enhancing their ongoing “special strategic partnership”. They achieved this pledge through the signing of 40 conspicuous memoranda of understanding, thus propelling it to the pinnacle of collaboration. A monumental investment of $30 billion was pledged to Korean corporations encompassing areas of nuclear power, energy, hydrogen, and defense...

It does not mean that Indo cannot buy the aircraft in future of course.

DSEI 2023: ST Engineering's hybrid electric systems enter final phases of development
by Huw Williams

Speaking to Janes at DSEI 2023 in London, Jensen Chew, vice-president and product director of electrification and 4×4 vehicles at ST Engineering, said that testing had so far taken place in Singapore and elsewhere in the Asia-Pacific region and will move to the Middle East to stress the vehicle in desert conditions and high temperatures.

NGPV and the Hybrid Electric Drive Kit are at a series-production level of development, and the latter is designed for wheeled vehicles in the 15- to 20-tonne class in its current form, Chew said.

Chew said the company started work on the Hybrid Electric Drive Kit around two years ago and its efforts in this area followed an increased demand for high-power payloads and a push for green technology among militaries.

Ahead of development, the company identified key user requirements for hybrid-electric technology, including the ability to export power to offboard systems to limit the need for mobile generators – Chew said that the Hybrid Electric Drive Kit can develop 150 kW of power. Furthermore, customers are seeking extended silent watch capabilities, fuel savings, and, from the special forces community, stealth operation, Chew said.

According to Chew, the Hybrid Electric Drive Kit can achieve up to 30% fuel savings, which equates to one supply cycle.

IF the news is true Indonesia is still in the KF-21 project. It will be a trilateral cooperation with Indonesia share a minority. Anyway there are no official statement from either South Korea or from Indonesia.

QUOTE
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has sent a letter to the Republic of Korea's National Security Bureau expressing its intention to cooperate on the Korean KF-21 fighter jet.

The UAE is said to have announced that it may replace Indonesia's unpaid contribution.

If the UAE's proposal becomes a reality, for KF-21 project, a trilateral cooperation system will be established between Korea, Indonesia and the UAE, which may speed up the implementation of the KF-21 project.

Unlike Indonesia and Poland, the United Arab Emirates has cash that can be deposited immediately.
