SP suffered from a fatal design flaw - the "mezzanine floor" ramps. Going to a shop is quite the challenge there if you dunno where to start in first place.
For example, if you wanna go to Dave Deli from World of Sports, you need to take the escalator to Starbucks at Level 1, then walk down the ramp and then turn right. Or you will need to take the escalator near Parkson there (which is quite a walk), then only reach the same floor as Dave Deli....
This is my favourite design aspect about SP and it's still my favourite mall. Nice and airy, full of natural lighting. An unique design. For example, if you wanna go to Dave Deli from World of Sports, you need to take the escalator to Starbucks at Level 1, then walk down the ramp and then turn right. Or you will need to take the escalator near Parkson there (which is quite a walk), then only reach the same floor as Dave Deli....
For this reason, they can't fit too many shops or people inside, but that's fine by me.
The main reason it's unpopular is its location. Very hard to access and not much place to park. Situated between two main road, whereas major malls have direct access from highway. Also not near any big office buildings. Plus, as others mentioned, not much reason to go as no cinema, bowling etc.
