Yup. For the Q6600, don't get the B3 stepping. Get the G0 stepping. Better thermal profile and a great overclocker.

i'd choose both brows.gif

Intel Core 2 Quad (for example, Q6850) + 2 x 8800 GTX Ultra/Non-Ultra

&

AMD Athlon X2 or (Quad Core) (for example FX series) + 2 x HD2900XT

The thread said " What are the specs u recommend for a Gaming PC? Vote for ur dream Gaming PC"

So it mean something I would dream off! If I got the money for it, I would get all the same specs as IANHO gaming rig.

agreed... not every1 can afford quad core... yet...

i've built and recommend this:

Intel Celeron 420
Abit IN9 32X Max
Mushkin 1GB DDR800 x 2
80GB HDD
Forsa 8600GT
Asus SATA DVD burner
normal casing
Topower 600W PSU

Best bang for the buck... icon_rolleyes.gif

Thks for the comment.

This poll is not to evaluate the objective view of hardware expert in relation to the above mentioned product.

However, it is more of obtaining the subjective view of pc gaming user (expert or casual) in their opinion of what they thought was their subjective dream machine (whether financial factor is to be taken into account).

The last 2 options in the poll IF deem "ridiculous" by you, then you might owe an apology to those ppl who "intentional" or "non-intentional" ticked that options.

being subjective is one thing but being too general makes the poll pointless.

A highly recommended X2 could be the X2 3800+ Brisbane. smile.gif and what happened to Intel dual-cores? In some cases, they still do better than quads.

ATI gpu vs nVidia GPU? again ATI GPU could be as low as the HD2400 and as high as HD2900. nVidia 7200 to 8800U

neh. not necessary, whoever casted votes probably did it for fun, or don't realize the poll is going no where, or just vote to view the results.

this is my second visit and I've not need any posts that make this thread worth continuing. smile.gif will check again later.

Point taken. Thanks for the suggestion.

Yet again, ppl would usually "by common sense/by default" choose the highest spec in their "dream Gaming PC".
Who would compare a ATI 9550 with a nVidia 8600 in this poll?

Would u?

Anyway, c'mon it is just a poll. Try to get over it.

if like what u say, then everyone should just vote the Intel Quad extreme edition with 8800 Ultra SLI'ed, that's the current highest end specs, then this defeat the purpose of this poll, when people say recommend, it's tied to a budget, and the needs of that person. If remove the budget as a control variable, everyone who game with their PC would surely opt for the best possible

Got a hypothetical question to ask.

If I'm not mistaken, AMD Athlon 64 X2 consists dual core processors with 64 bit chip each
and
Intel Duo 2 Core consists of dual core processors with 32 bit chip each and so forth for quad core.

Which of these is hypothetically have a higher processor speed?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But as u see in this poll, not every ppl voted for intel quad. There are still many AMD fans there.

Btw, Intel Quad extreme edition is not included in this poll (just like what u r try to say beyong the budget)

..........Summing up the results we have just seen, I can conclude that if the gamers don't feel like overclocking their processor, they shouldn't go for CPUs with more than two cores. Gamers-overclockers should definitely decide in favor of the Core 2 Quad Q6600, although a strong opposite opinion exists these days............

..........those computer users who do not want to mess with processor overclocking may think differently. In this case Core 2 Duo E6850 with 25% higher clock speed performs better in a lot of applications, including games. Moreover, it is also more economical. As a result, the most optimal choice for a system working at nominal speeds would depends a lot on the type of tasks it is intended for.........

I have no idea why this Q&A Topic is here masquerading as a Hardware topic.. Silly polls.

Still, to help feed the trolls, as long as my games run at native res and maxed out details @ 60fps who cares what you have in your system. The rest of your cash then goes towards blinging out the system.

Actually Gaming in PC does not need to be expensive. This is what most of people made their mistake. If you want to game better buy PS3 for RM2500 or X360 for less than RM2000. I'm not a fan of console but this is fact. The last time i bought was GameBoy Advance hand held console. Actually people can build a good enough gaming PC for the price of X360 or PS3. You did not need Rm2500 card to play latest game, the only reason of the super expensive card is because of the resolutions. smile.gif

Most of the PC Gamers played their game depending on their LCD native resolution or 1280*1024 at best. cool2.gif The best graphic card money can buy for now will be the 8800GTS 320MB or 2900XT. 7900GS or X1950Pro is no slouch either. They can play most games without DX10 (bet least people do because of Vista crap) with no problem at all at high settings. So Quad Core CPU is way too much, for now Core2 6420 or 6600 is good enough for gaming PC.

I have no respect a person who bought super expensive PC then buy/downloaded pirated copy of their game or even their OS/applications claiming that games were expensive. vmad.gif

The reason people buy expensive GPU because of these card can handle high settings in ultra high resolution. These resolution only applied for LCD sized 22" above or using their super expensive 1080p TV or projectors. You see where these leads, it goes to the rich people (minority) like mr.lonely. tongue.gif Only these people can afford these cards, for the majority of people they bought the mid-high range card than can handle high settings in res below 1280 resolution. nod.gif That's why 8800GTS 320 was so popular.

GPU? I think it depends on your need. Nvidia would the good choice because many manufacturer nowadays collaborate with Nvidia in gaming.

8800GTS and above perhaps?

Well what u said about buying consoles for the general public is very true. That's the cheapest way to game on big screens with nice gfx.

What u said about the gaming PC is not true though. Gaming at 1280x1024 is really, really unbearable. Sooooooooo small lar the screen. laugh.gif If we hafta game at 1280x1024 then it's much better to go the way of the console. For an unbeatable gaming experience on the PC it truly is a very deep n dark abyss for ur money to fall into. laugh.gif Coz to experience games like nothing else, the only way is to buy the very best hardware around and play it on the biggest monitor. There's no if or but about it. Saying that 1280 reso is good enuf is unrealistic. It's like saying the Proton saloon is a good enuf car so why do we need cars like the Maybach.

As for this poll, just take out rm30k from ur bank, go to LYP n grab all the very best hardware. Only choice u hafta make is whether u want ATi Crossfire or Nvidia SLi and u haf a Dream Rig.

if it Core2Duo beat X2 flat, i put them side by side you can detect or not? i doubt you can, so in fact it doesn't beat by far.

at the same price point, their performance is similar. some cases X2 actually does better.

those who used X2 (or know how to read / understand benchies) know that X2s are great processors, just people simply paint them bad just because they don't perform as good as C2Ds.

Ya lor. All those frustrated Intel P4 netburst era fellas who suffered all the bashing for not upgrading to AMD last time now wanna revenge n step back on the AMD fellas. laugh.gif I had an E6300 from the day it 1st arrived in LYP too. But I didnt even bother to use it coz it didnt make any diff compared to my X2. Probably the only advantage was in decoding oni. That's y i never bothered with any other C2Ds until the Quads appeared.

AMD X2 suitable budget user for now, Price Is King not every1 can afford the luxury C2Ds C2Qs, they may look for X2 as a cheaper alternatives.
