Hi All Sifu,

As know the 2008 bugdet announcement that properties under 250k will discount 50% for stamp duty .

Do anyone know is this effective immediately or year 2008?

Bcoz banker told me effective on the announced date but legal firm told the different. rclxub.gif

Is the gazette out?

History has proven that it is prudent to make major decisions only after one has seen the gazette.

I'm in the process of buying a house and the stamp duty already given discount of 50%. The proposal is effective for sale and purchase agreements executed from Sept 8, 2007, to Dec 31, 2010.

To Ju-On, I think you need to change your lawyer.

I was told by my lawyer as well. The 50% is not effetive yet. She said the Housing Kementerian haven't issue official MOT letter yet.

The lawyer said, she will write rayuan letter once the MOT letter is out to Housing Kementerian.

You should call LHDN or Housing Kementerian?

Added on January 18, 2008, 3:50 pmThis is the feedback I received from LHDN today.

@hanif444,
Am afraid I don't know what the answer to ur question is - let's hope other forumers be able to help. Also, I thought the 50% discount is onli applicable to first house purchase.

50% discount applicable to 1 house per person, doesnt matter new or second hand house and its for a limited time only.
from my experience, by default they wont give you the 50% discount, you have to ask your lawyer to write to the tax office.

I bought my house cost RM213k. 50% stamp duty is waived by gov. My developer absorb the rest 50%. Total I paid RM840 to my lawyer. I just signed the legal documentation last monday.

To TS, yes the 50% stamp duty waiver already applicable
