let me call them whether they really have the giant mantis or not, some menu advertised it but walk in say out of stock

that photo is 1200hkd, i had in temple street 2 yrs ago, just 2 giant alive zebra mantis prawn

one the word mantis prawn in malaysia greatly abused... turn out to be those tiny than cents prawn meats... ayam looking at ultra big one, at least at arm's length

so cheap? you sure? i once makan in kk waterfront few yrs back also like 300 per pc.. anyway, prefer not to fly atm, KV only plz

lobster so common, can easily find, taste wise its 2 diff world. mantis prawn so fresh, soft, juicy and melt in your mouth =|~~~~~

errr is the big one from fisheries got the black and white stripes? in hk we call it zebra mantis, once cook, their shell is soo soft and chewable one.

i dont wan those small and medium size one where their shells is as hard as crab's

Premium fare: Mantis shrimps are touted by gastronomic enthusiasts as among the ‘most delicious shrimps in the world’.

NIBONG TEBAL: Watch out for giant mantis shrimps coming to your local restaurants.

Once meant only for export, sellers now send this jumbo-sized delicacies to local establishments at reduced prices because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Farmer Datuk Tan Kian Poh, who rears thousands of giant mantis shrimps at his farm in Bukit Tambun, said its export to Hong Kong dropped by almost 70% after many restaurants there closed down.

“Each shrimp weighs over 200g and is about 30cm long.

“I used to export the A-size shrimps for over RM250 per kilo, individually packed in transparent containers and sent by air.

“Local restaurants could not afford the shrimps at that price.

“Now that demand from overseas has dropped, local restaurants can get the shrimps for RM130 per kilo, ” he said yesterday.Tan said the drop in overseas orders had taken a toll on his income and that of the fishermen who catch the shrimps for him to grow, but they were able to subsist with local demand.

“I used to deliver 200kg to 300kg of shrimps daily before the lockdowns and restrictions in Hong Kong. After that, delivery rates dropped to thrice weekly with only half the amount per shipment, ” he said.

The shrimps are caught at sea by fishermen and delivered to Tan’s farm, where workers sort them by size.

The medium shrimps, which round up to around 125g each, cost RM75 per kilo, while small shrimps are sold for RM5 each.

“I buy from the fishermen and the shrimps only stay alive for up to three days after that. They lose their value once they’re dead, ” added Tan, who has been in the business for about 30 years.

by the way, this is the giant zebra mantis i used to makan in hk, seasonal, can be found in low end temple st (600-1000hkd per pc, depend on size) or up to 2000-3000hkd per pc in higher restaurant.

i took all the biggest ones, so around ~130 per pc, damn cheap compare to HK. they used to have zebras but no more now

ayam seafood fan, if they sell stethacanthus i'd eat that fucker too. yolo

ayam back again, i just called unique seafood, they do have it, but they're only max 200g... mid size only... gonna pass...

south sea i had today is about 300g each, 30cm length, can consider giant but still smaller than zebra.

now any ktard got lubang to find zebra mantis shrimp? 350g to 400g giant one in KV? i miss zebra's crispy shell.

if you tried the giant one, u will never ever eat the small ones...

all hk movie stars love it, it contains high quality fat and protein, good for skin n brain.

Zebra mantis shrimp @ sabah's kk waterfront! ayam been at this restaurant for dozen times! brought my hk fubu makan mantis shrimp then walk back to le meridien piap piap, miss those days.

today gf suddenly wanna eat mantis prawn, called up southsea again they said no more stock and unlikely got stock infuture bcoz price went up too much so they dont wanna stock it.

suddenly i remember this thread and i called up unique seafood and yay they got it!

very sedap, this is the zebra mantis prawn (not the normal one) i was looking for a long time, finally able to eat one in bolehland.

after we left, there is only one small ekok left and no more liao.
