I kinda know how it feels, to be in the field that you are doing freelance work but couldn't come out with a number

for electronic design projects that I'm already familiar with (no major redesign), I just quote a number that I am comfortable with (10-15k for a week of design), since there's no real benchmark at that time..
I stick to that number for recurring clients while some ppl inquired and mentioned that I charge too high. in that case they are free to go find other designers

at the same time, for some odd jobs, depending on how deep is the client budget, I just throw a higher number to test water. there was once I billed 18k for 30 minutes of work

also, if you know anyone that is in this line of work, u can also ask them how they bill..for example, I called up my junior that runs an engineering firm regarding how they do quotation for electrical/electronic projects, cost of material, time, etc.
