Any idea how much to start a simple hawker stall or food truck, planning to do some side job during weekends only as I am still working in corporate and dare not resign just like that.
Many commitments, at least with the job, all that is lost will be the investment only, but of course, I want it to be successful la.

If simple foodstuff, station wagon/van/hijet mini lorry pun can. Just like pasar malam seller.

Only weekends? Would it be really worth the trouble - your day job not keeping you busy enough?

If Only weekends my suggestion is start to look for weekend only market/pasar malam.

You better think think think thrice cause selling food is easy but it takes alot time in preparing the cooking material.

If you commit to it you almost cannot do other things liao.
Weekend gone. Just like that.

Hawker stall (under kopitiam)
kopitiams only allow one kind of foods in their food court. Its hard to find available spot with good foot traffic. Traffic very dependent on the reputation of the kopitiam. Some owners not okay with u operate only weekends, and not opening weekdays.

Hawker (khemah under pasar malam)
U can suka suka open stall and suka suka not open. But u need to maintain a good relationship with people around the pasar malam. Especially your neighbors. They are brutal and not polite to newcomers. Rental is cheap. Some place can apply under majlis perbandaran, while the others under their own in charge ppl)

Food truck
Most expensive. License needs GDL. Truck to be inspected every 6 months. But super mobile. U can literally park anywhere. Empty small truck starts from 100k. You check out boonkoon for more info.

Food trailer
New trend of hawker. Check out Ireman Automotive.
You don't require any special license to carry the trailer. Even a Toyota Vios can drag the trailer on the road. 35k is the empty trailer price. Easy to store stuff during rain. Very organized. But not recommended if you only work on weekends. Too much hassle.

Nid aroun 60-70k for food truck if you want the mobility. Otherwise do stall. Truck is for the glam too.

Calculate your cost and breakeven cost, and how many product to sell per day for small daily motivation. It's a very lonely grind.

The morning pasar near my house has these couple that sells simple chee cheong fun with either just seasoned oil or curry sauce only on Saturday and Sunday morning from 6am. People que for this. And they are usually sold out by 10am.

Another idea, just cook from home, and post in some fb page, sell at a very cheap price say this is just to test market and looking for feedback before going full force... Then you will really see what you should improve and all...

TS, why food stall and not others? MLM, insurance agency etc?

Understand the need to diversify your income, but if you thinking running a FnB stall is easy, think again.
